Robert J. (Bud) Puariea age 93, of Plover passed away Friday evening at Riverview Lodge in Stevens Point.
Funeral services for Robert will be at 11:30 AM on Wednesday March 13, 2013 at the Plover - Shuda Funeral Home. Visitation will be from 9:30AM to the time of services Wednesday at the Plover Funeral Home. Burial with full military honors will be at the Plover Cemetery.
Robert was born May 14, 1919 in Hinsdale, IL. He was the son of Ruby Puariea and moved to Plover as a child. Robert graduated from Emerson High School in 1938. He entered the United States Army on February 12, 1942 at Ft. Sheridan, IL. where he served his country as a Heavy Mortor Gunner. Robert earned the World War II Victory Medal, American Theater Ribbon, European African Middle Eastern Theater Ribbon with 1 Bronze Battle Star, 2 Overseas Service Bars, 1 Service Stripe and the Good Conduct Medal. He was honorably discharged on February 2, 1946 as a Corporal. He returned to Plover and married Mary Ann Shewczyk on July 26, 1946 in Stevens Point. The couple settled in Plover and Robert worked for Benson Optical from '46-53 in Stevens Point. He then worked at the Biron Paper Mill until 1962, and then joined the Stevens Point School District as head custodian until his retirement in 1983. Robert enjoyed camping, photography, had a keen interest in model trains, volunteered at the WI Veteran Home in King, was a member of the Plover V.F.W. Post 10262 and the American Legion Post 543.
Survivors include his wife of 66 years, Mary, and their 3 children: Ron (Bernadette) Puariea, WI Rapids; Sharon (Jack) Rapp, Milwaukee; Terri (Myron) Koziczkowski, Stevens Point. 6 grandchildren and 5 great grandchildren: Jeremy (Amanda) Barber with Vayda and Trevor; Miranda (Joseph) Gajewski with Maddison; Adam (Kristin) Koziczkowski with Hailey and Kylie; Nicole (Benjamin) Jenkins; Natalie Puariea, and Kelly Koziczkowski. He was preceded in death by his mother, grandparents, three sisters, and one brother.
