Bruno S. Maziarka age 89, of Stevens Point passed away May 9, 2013 at the Stevens Point Care Center.
A Mass of Christian Burial for Bruno will be held at 10:00 AM on Tuesday May 14, 2013 at St. Stanislaus Catholic Church. Rev. Thomas Lindner will officiate. Burial will be in the Guardian Angel Cemetery. Visitation for Bruno will be held on Monday evening from 4:00 - 8:00 PM at the Shuda Funeral Chapel. A Bible Vigil will be prayed at 7:00 PM. Visitation will also be held on Tuesday from 9:00 AM until the time of services at the church.
Bruno was born February 14, 1924 in Posen, IL, the son of Joseph and Victoria (Tylka) Maziarka. As a child his family moved to Stevens Point and Bruno continued his schooling here. He entered the United States Army on November 12, 1942 in Milwaukee. He earned the Victory Medal, American Theater Ribbon, European African Middle Easter Theater Ribbon with 1 silver Battle Star, and 3 overseas service medals. He was discharged December 5, 1944 at Ft. Sheridan, IL
After his honorable discharge Bruno returned to Stevens Point, he married Gladys Brillowski on June 1, 1946 at St. Stanislaus Catholic Church. The couple settled in Stevens Point, and Bruno worked at the United States Postal Service until his retirement in 1979. He and Gladys enjoyed traveling and golfing. During his golfing years Bruno accomplished the rare "Hole in One" feat. He also enjoyed hunting, fishing, bowling, and as a young pitcher, played many years in the Portage County Baseball League.
Bruno is survived by his wife Gladys, and their two children: Edward (Marsha) Maziarka, Stevens Point and Brenda (Richard) Baltzell, Plover. Four grandchildren: Stephen Baltzell, Amy Pitts, Joleen Marziarka, and Ashley Firkus. 11 great grandchildren: Lacey, Victoria, Samantha, Bradie Jo, Travis, Eva Marie, Isaac, Tyler, Brianna, Sabrina, and Arianna. He was preceded in death by his parents, 4 brothers, 3 sisters, and his granddaughter Michelle Weseloh in 2012.
