Helen Mayek Obituary

Helen E. Mayek

Helen E. Mayek, age 86, of Stevens Point, died May 18, 2013 at Sylvan Crossings Assisted Living while under the care of her family and hospice.

Helen was born August 31, 1926 to the late Edward & Elnora (Eastman) Bohm in Junction City, WI. She grew up on the family farm and attended grade school at the local Junction City school house.

She married Chester Mayek on August 17, 1944 at St Paul Lutheran Church in Junction City.

In her earlier years, Helen worked as a homecare worker, cleaning homes. She later became employed with a local farm harvesting potatos. She left the farm to cook at the Red Mill Supper Club. An opportunity arose at Worzalla Publishing, and Helen seized the opening position. She worked there as a book binder and retired after 25 years of faithful employment.

Helen will always be remembered for her bright smile and kind heart. She had a passion for helping others and keeping busy. Family was important to Helen, as she always enjoyed a time of family fellowship. Helen loved cultivating her garden and watching her flowers bloom. In her spare time, she enjoyed playing cards and socializing. Her faith was important and she was a member of St Paul Lutheran Church.

Survivors included her children, James (Judy) Mayek of Junction City, Edward (Darlene) Mayek of Junction City, Dorothy (George) Pientka of Stevens Point, Judy (Jeff) Schlutter of Bancroft, Pamela (Jim) Dawley of Plover; 12 grandchildren; 14 great grandchildren; and nieces & nephews.

She is preceded in death by her parents; husband, Chester; and brothers, Leo, Carl, Ernest, Emil & Harold.

A Funeral Service, commemorating her life, will be held 11:00 am, Thursday, May 23, 2013 at St Paul Lutheran Church in Stevens Point, with Rev. Tom Petersen officiating. Visitation will be held on Wednesday from 4:00 pm until 8:00 pm at Boston Funeral Home and at the church on Thursday from 10:00 am until time of the service. Burial will follow in Forest Cemetery.

All of life is a journey and over the years, Helen has "seen it all." Life has not only been good to her, but she has had, what most would call- "A Charmed Life".
