Lela Margaret Ruff, passed away July 12, 2013 at the age of 108.
Lela was born January 22, 1905 to the late Daniel & Peral (Graves) Williams in Norris, IL.
A longtime resident of Stevens Point, her last years were spent living in Montello, WI.
Lela moved with her family from Illinois to Wisconsin as a young girl. She spent her childhood in the Bancroft area, attending a one room school. She later attended the Normal School (Teachers College - UWSP) at the age of 13 and started teaching grades 1 - 8 at the age of 16. Lela graduated with a Rural Teacher's Certificate class A on June 8, 1922, and taught until she married Bill. Lela & William raised their three children through the great depression. In the 1940's, Lela returned to school to achieve her Bachelor of Arts degree and then resumed teaching.
Lela will be rememberd for her generousity and honesty. She was a prayer warrior and a trusted confidante.
Lela's adult life was full. She was active in The First Baptist Church and St. Paul's United Methodist Church. She was a Worthy Grand Matron of Arbutus Chapter 52 and a member of the Order of the Eastern Star. Lela enjoyed spending time with life-long friends and making beautiful quilts. Family will always remember her serving enormous holiday meals from a kitchen that was barely big enough to change your mind in. In her spare time she also canned vegetables, made jam, tended large flower gardens, and did all the things that capable women do.
She is preceded in death by her husband, William R. Ruff & daughter, Ruth Zei.
She is survived by her daughter Lucretia (Ruff) Nyberg, and son Dr. William R. Ruff; 10 grandchildren; 23 great grandchildren; and 3 great-great grandchildren.

Good bye Lela- daughter, wife, mother, Gram, friend. You lived the length of your life... you lived the breadth of it also. You were and are a treasure.
