Anthony J. (Skipp) Opiola age 99, died July 31, 2013 at Harmony Village in Stevens Point. Private family funeral services will be held at the Shuda Funeral Chapel, burial will take place at Guardian Angel Cemetery. In lieu of flowers a memorial has been established in his name for Ministry Homecare Hospice.
Anthony was born September 14, 1913 in Chicago to the late Joseph and Martha. He attended Chicago Schools.
He married Veronica Gavinski on November 23, 1939 in Chicago. They ran a candy store in Chicago until 1948 when they moved to Stevens Point. They bought the Skipp Inn bar on the square, in Stevens Point which they ran until 1963. In 1956 they bought Skipp's Bowling Center on the south side which they ran until retirement in 1968. He was an avid sports fan, he especially enjoyed watching the Packers, Bears Brewers and Cubs. He was a member of the Elks lodge, the Moose lodge, the Knights of Columbus and the Catholic Order of Foresters.
He is survived by one son William (Judi) Opiola of Mosinee, one daughter Diane (David) Pozarski of Stevens Point. Nine Grand Children, Jodi (Wayne)Tuskowski, Jennifer Guzman, Ryan Pozarski , Michael Pozarski, Kelley Lee (Sean) Johnson, Becky Firkus, Tara (Mike) Cooper, Bobby Opiola, Kenny Opiola.
He is also survived by nine great-grandchildren.
