Frank S. Flees
Frank S. Flees, 89, Wittenberg, died on Friday, August 2, 2013 at Ministry St. Clare's Hospital, Weston.
He was born on November 16, 1923 in the Town of Franzen, Marathon County, the son of the late Adam and Eve (Goskowicz) Flees.
Frank was a United States Marine Corps Veteran serving from 1943 to 1946. He served in the Central Pacific in the invasion of Guam, Iwo Jima and Mariana Islands during World War II. He was wounded and received a Purple Heart and other honorable military citations.
On August 16, 1947, Frank was united in marriage to Lorraine Groshek at St. Joseph's Catholic Church, Galloway. She survives.
In 1950, the couple went into farming in the Town of Franzen for 45 years until their retirement. Frank was a member of St. Joseph's Catholic Church, Galloway and the St. Joseph's Society. He was also a member of the Elderon Memorial Post #8068 Veterans of Foreign Wars and the Rosholt American Legion Post #509. Frank enjoyed fishing and hunting with friends, gardening, and get togethers with family.
Survivors include his wife Lorraine and children, Audrey (Charles) Beecher, Appleton, Lori (Randy) Thorson, Wittenberg, Roger (Kathy) Flees, Plover, Gary (Dianne) Flees, Woodhaven, MI, Peter (Pam) Flees, Perris, CA, David (Brenda) Flees and Jeff (Dorrean) Flees all of Wittenberg; 22 grandchildren; 28 great-grandchildren; four step-great grandchildren; one sister, Theresa Groshek, Wittenberg, and one brother-in-law, John Schrader, Wittenberg.
Frank was preceded in death by his parents, five brothers, Alois, Joseph, Anton and two in infancy; two sisters, Regina Groshek and Delores Javorek; one great-grandchild, Caleb; a sister-in-law, Ruffina Schrader and brother-in-law, Carl Groshek.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 10:30AM on Monday, August 5, 2013 at St. Joseph's Catholic Church, Galloway. Fr. Augustine Bentil will officiate. Interment will be in the Parish cemetery with military rites conducted by the V.F.W. Visitation will be on Sunday from 4PM to 7PM and again on Monday from 9AM until the time of Mass all at the church. There will be a Parish Rosary at 7PM Sunday evening at the church.
