Kowalczyk, Stanley

Stanley Kowalczyk, age 78, of Wautoma, WI, passed away on Friday, December 6th, 2013 at Saint Michael's Hospital, Stevens Point, WI. He was born in Sterling, MI, a son of the late Stanely and Agnes Kowalczyk.

Stanley graduated high school in 1953 in Mauston, WI. He joined the U.S. Army and served his country most notably in Germany where his unit was charged with supervising the retraining of the German Army following WW II. There he met his first wife and the had three children, Marina, Stanley and Curtis.

They settled in Chicago, where Stanley worked as an executive for Cracker Jack and Firks Ad Agency. After his divorce in 1960, Stanley raised his children as a single father.

In 1962 he married the love of his life, Dolores (nee Dlask) also of Mauston, WI. They married and resided in Chicago until 1968. Together they had one more child in 1964, a son, Daniel.

In 1968 the family moved to the Town of Rose, Wild Rose, WI. Stanley taught his children the values of and the value of farming.

Soon after, Stanley began working at the University of Wisconsin, Stevens Point. As book store manager, he grew the business and taught many students how to run a business. He published many papers on small business practices and management. He had a passion for books, but more importantly the knowledge they held. He was a life long learner and teacher. As a result of his tireless work, he was granted an academic faculty position, while never attending college himself. Stanley retired from UWSP after 25 years of service. He sold his farm and resided in the Township of Wautoma until his death.

Survivors include his Wife: Dolores Kowalczyk, Wautoma, WI; Children: Marina Strohbusch, River Falls, WI; Stanley Kowalczyk III, California; Curtis (Robbin) Kowalczyk, Henderson, NC; Daniel (Carrie) Kowalczyk, Minneapolis, MN; 14 Grandchildren; 8 Great Grandchildren and a Sister: Dolores (Thaddeus) Grudzinski, Lake Villa, IL. He was preceded in death by his parents, 2 brothers - Thomas and Norbert and a sister - Agnes.

Funeral Services will be held at the Holly Funeral Home in Wild Rose, WI, at 11 AM on Wednesday, December 11th, 2013, with Father Paul Vanden Hogen officiating. Burial will be held at Mount Pleasant Cemetery, Town Rose, Waushara Co, WI. Visitation will be held on Tuesday, from 4 - 8 PM at the Holly Funeral Home in Wild Rose and on Wednesday from 10 AM until the time of the service at the funeral home. In lieu of flowers, memorials can be made to St. Jude's Hospital in Memphis, TN.
