Leland R. Kehring Jr.

Leland "Red" R. Kehring Jr., age 84, of Waupaca, died December 9, 2013, at King Wisconsin Veterans Home.

Red was born February 25, 1929, to the late Leland & Leonore (Hall) Kehring Sr. in Glidden, WI. He attended the local schools and graduated from Glidden High School in May 1946.

Red enlisted in the Army on February 17, 1947. He served in WWII from his enlistment until July 21, 1948 and was called back to serve in the Korean war from November 1950 until August of 1951. During this time, Red earned the Korean Service Medal and 3 bronze service stars. He was honorably dishcharged on August 11, 1951.

He married Virginia Redding on February 14, 1953. She preceded him in death July 12, 2009. They were married for 56 years.

Following his discharge, Red began his career as a meat cutter. For many years, he was the owner of Bergies Market.

Red will be remembered for his happy go lucky, easy going, free spirit personality. He was always there for you when you needed help. He was a skilled handyman who was able to fix anything. In his spare time, he enjoyed bowling in his younger years, fishing, spending time up north, and going on casino trips. Red was an accomplished self taught musician, playing in a band in Korea, the Stevens Point City Band, and starting up a polka band called the Rhythm Masters. Faith was an important part of his life; he was a life long member of St. Joseph's Catholic Church. Red was also a long time member of the American Legion Post 6.

Survivors include his children, Ann (Joe) Hencik of Plover, Allan (Kathy) Kehring of Scottsdale, AZ, Alice (Mike Suchowski) Kehring of Stevens Point, Andy (Connie) Kehring of Rosholt; grandchildren, Josh, Andrea, Allysa, Brandon, Shaina, Jim, Molly, & Gabby. He is further survived by great-grandchildren, Natasha, and Vincent; sisters, Geraldine Corrigan and Leonore Tal; and numerous nieces and nephews.

Red was preceded in death by his parents; wife; and sister, Colleen Bauer.

A Funeral Mass will be held 1:00 pm, Saturday, December 14, 2013 at St Joseph Catholic Church with Rev. Jerzy Rebacz officiating. A visitation will be held Saturday from 12 Noon until time of service at the church. Burial in Guardian Angel Cemetery will be held in the spring. The family would like to thank the2nd and 4th floor staff at King Wisconsin Veterans Home - Ainsworth Hall for their kindness and compassion in caring for Red. A special thanks to Jean Berna for helping care for Red when he was living at home.
