Eunice Dyer Obituary

Dyer, Eunice May (nee Koenig), died on February 27, 2013 with many of her loving children at her side. She was born on May 31, 1925, the daughter of Estelle and Henry Koenig, who was a pioneer of labor rights in St. Louis as a member of Electrical Workers' Union, Local 1. A graduate of Deaconess Hospital School of Nursing, she married Dallas J. Dyer, M.D. on July 17, 1947. Eunice was predeceased by her parents, her husband, and her brother, Elliott Koenig. Survivors include 10 children: John Dyer (Karen) of Atlanta, GA; Theresa Kreutz (Richard) of St. Louis, MO; Anne McGuire (Mike) of Omaha, NE; Thomas Dyer (Pamela) of Houston, TX; Mary Bergfeld (Doug) of St. Louis, MO; Michael Dyer of St. Louis, MO: Dallas Dyer, Jr. (Sue) of Seattle, WA: Susan Buterbaugh (Mark) of Atlanta, GA; Paul Dyer (Wendy) of St. Louis, MO; Elizabeth Kraemer (Glennon) of St. Louis, MO; and 23 grandchildren, including Joshua Dyer, Jacob Dyer, Justin Dyer (Joey), Jessica (Shaine) Thurman, Eric Kreutz, Brian Kreutz (Leanne), Megan McGuire, Elizabeth McGuire, Michael McGuire, Catherine McGuire, Nicole (Chris) Anderson, Nathan Dyer, Alan (Kim) Bergfeld, Joseph Bergfeld, Zachary Dyer, Carlie Dyer, Dallas Dyer III, Allison Buterbaugh, David Buterbaugh, Benjamin Kraemer, Claire Kraemer, Magdalena Dyer, Thomas Dyer; as well as special friend Patricia Barrett of St. Louis, MO and many other dear friends. She was especially known for cooking gourmet meals in massive quantities, as well as caring for the family's beloved country log cabin in Lincoln County, Missouri, maintained by generations of Dyers. She was also an amazing sports fan, even in her final days keeping score on professional and collegiate sports. A wise adviser, she will be greatly missed. Special thanks to staff at Manor Grove and especially Lu Lu the cat, who spent many hours luxuriating in Mom's room. Services: Visitation will be from 4-7 p.m. at GERBER Chapel on Sunday, March 3rd. A funeral Mass will be held at Holy Redeemer Catholic Church, 341 East Lockwood, on Monday, March 4 at 10 a.m. followed by burial at Resurrection Cemetery. I was saddened to hear of your mother's passing. She was a beautiful woman with an engaging sense of humor. She lived across the street from us on Hawthorne so I watched her rear her family in the early years. She was a role model. When I was pregnant with my first child in 1959, I went to your mom for guidance on where to shop for maternity clothes. Who better to ask for advice on that topic and, of course, I followed it. I still remember the name of one of the shops on Maryland Ave. in Clayton.
Although I've lived in MA for over fifty years, I visited your mother over the years with my sister, Pat, when I was in town.
She raised a beautiful family who are blessed to call her mom.
With tears and many fond memories,
Phyllis Barrett Walsh, Pat Barrett's Sister

Mimi, Lizzie, Theresa, Susie, Anne, Johnny, DJ, Michael, Paul, Tommy & families: I was so sad to learn of your Mother's passing. I have such fond memories of her-- her hospitality & her incredible spirit. She was very gracious to me when I moved to St. Louis in the '80s. I count it a privilege to have known her. May all of you have the peace & comfort of the Lord in the coming days.
