McHale, Colleen Michele fortified with the Sacraments of Holy Mother Church, reluctantly succumbed to breast cancer at her home in St Louis on April 24, 2013, leaving behind her grieving husband, Fred Buckley, beloved siblings Dan, Kathy (Tom Wolff), Tim (the late Michelle Estaque) and Maureen (Mike Salwasser); her dear Uncle Frank and Aunt Ruth Votruba and mother-in-law Mary Buckley; brothers and sisters-in-law Jim Buckley and Linda Johnson, Mike Buckley and Jamie Blum, Maria and Bob McMahon, many nieces, nephews and cousins all of whom held a special place in her heart; preceded by her parents Emmett and Anne (nee Votruba) McHale, her brother Mike McHale and fatherin-law, Dan Buckley. Colleen could light up a room with her smile and her sincere, gentle, loving ways garnered myriad friends as she traveled this life one day at a time. Colleen only wanted to help the people she met to be their best selves in the service of others. She will be sorely missed by all who loved and cared for her. Services: A Memorial Mass will be held at Our Lady of Sorrows Catholic Church, on Sat. May 4, at 10 a.m. To help the battle against breast cancer, Colleen donated her body to St Louis University School of Medicine. In lieu of flowers, gifts to St. Vincent de Paul Society and Catholic Charities would be greatly appreciated. Special thanks to the OLS parish and our many friends for their generous support. I was blessed to have been in Colleen's life. We got especially close when I volunteered to take her to her chemo treatments. We always managed to have fun regardless of the circumstances. We spent a wonderful afternoon at the Missouri Botanical Garden together. She also wanted to see the Washington exhibit at the History Museum. We only made it halfway through. Our breakfasts and lunches together were always long affairs which I cherished. She always would rather listen to me and my life stuff than talk about her problems. We both loved to play games and I was able to teach her how to do Sodoku. She was so smart!
I will never forget her warmth, caring and love. She endlessly talked about her love and concern for Fred and her family. I wish she didn't have to die so young but I wouldn't trade all the sadness I feel now for not having known her. My prayers continue for Fred and the entire family. She was truly loved.

We participated in JustFaith at Our Lady of Sorrows with Colleen and found her to be compassionate, insightful and articulate. She researched & encouraged Fair Trade sales at OLS. In her final weeks & months she shared
her faith journey with us. She will be greatly missed. It was great to meet several members of her family. Fred, we will continue to support you in your needs.

We meet many people in life but some we really remember well. We went to high school together and then reconnected 30 years later. Colleen's presence was a warm, safe place. If you were with Colleen you knew that someone was really seeing you. My heart is heavy but my memories are bright.

Dear FRED and FAMILY:
Please know of the prayerful sympathy of many of the St. Louis U. student community friends of your late wife, COLLEEN McHale, a SLU alumnus and great friend to all of us in her college days.
COLLEEN's dynamic Catholic faith, sincere concern for others, and empathetic personality are remembered by all of us as a distinctive part of her friendship for which we are all grateful.
We are sure that her recent ordeal and illness has secured a high place for her in Heaven--and may God grant all of you consolation in the days ahead! You may be assured of our prayers for you as well.
We have remembered COLLEEN with a Memorial Donation to the YOUNG ADULT ST. VINCENT DePaul SOCIETY of ST. LOUIS--a recently founded charitable endeavor BY young adults FOR young adults in the Archdiocese. We feel she would approve of this innovative new young adult outreach and charitable group--as well as our remembrance of her through it!
May God Grant COLLEEN eternal rest, and all of you consolation at this time.
Sincerely,
Max Kaiser, Cindy McFadden, Pat Donovan, and others in COLLEEN's St. Louis University Friends Group

Colleen and I are part of the RK class of 1974. We were often seated together and lined up next to each other because McHale preceded McNicholas. We always had lots to chat about during those wonderful years.

I am so grateful that Colleen was part of my life's journey for 38 years. It was definitely a perk of marrying her older sister, Maureen.
That seh lived her life one day at a time up until the end inspires me to strive to do the same with my life. I am grateful for the many times our paths crossed and the memories that linger after.
