I met bob in the pentagon in 1965 on a study group defining GPS. Over the years our careers joined to create a close and lasting comradeship . He was most intelligent and yet did not ware it. He had refined the art of explaining complex technical concepts so even I understood. Bob was warm ,ingaging and most proud of his family. I know He is in a place explaining geodetic concepts to the events hosts! Larry Ayers

My most sincere sympathy to Bob's family. I have many good memories of Bob. His intelligence coupled with his humanity and leadership skills resulted in
a man of unsurpassed stature. I remember intense sessions in DMAAC/PRA with Bob, Bill Mahoney and others........More often than not, Bob would show the way to go.I also remember going with Bob to watch Rob play baseball. Of course Bob enjoyed catching a "business "mans special to watch the Cardinals play baseball on a weekday afternoon. Bob will forever live on in my heart........

Please accept my sincere sympathies. Having had hundreds of graduate students work with me at Purdue, very few stand out and remain in my memory. Your father was on top of that list. As bright and creative as he was, he was equally humble and self-effacing. He was an absolute pleasure to work with. I
have used him as an example of the professional, hard working, and committed person. He became one of my best friends. I shall miss him
God Bless you.

When I was in graduate school at Purdue, Ed Mikhail told stories of a guy he called the most practical photogrammetrist he had ever met. His name was Bob Ballew. I had the pleasure of meeting Bob in 1990 and working with him every day for 7 years. What an experience. As a retired photogrammetrist he could run circles around my young mind. I enjoyed learning from Bob every day. He had such a unique personality that brought enjoyment to each day. I am deeply saddened by his passing. He will be missed by us all.

I had the very good fortune to work as a contractor with Bob in the 80's and 90's, when he was with DMA. He was, of course, a noted expert, but handled his dealings with government and contractor folks with grace, kindness and humor. He will be missed. Rest in peace, Bob.

Bob was a wonderful, fun and intelligent man. Worked with him every day for about 5 years, after his first retirement. His contributions to his field were outstanding, but Bob was always humble and had an amazing sense of humor. I have kept all of his notes and writings that he shared with me, and treasure them. My sincerest condolences to his family, he thought the world of you, Bob talked about you all the time and always looked forward to spending time with his family.

Although I worked in a different area of the DMA Aerospace Center than Bob, and once a year would "fight" him for resources, there is no one I respected more! He was an intelligent and considerate individual and valued colleague who made truly significant contributions to our National defense. He will be missed by all his many friends and colleagues!
