Barnicle, Tony
Barnicle, Tony On February 26, 2015, Tony Barnicle of Mary's Home, Missouri, quietly passed away in his home surrounded by his family. Tony is remembered as a man with a thirst for adventure and a hunger for knowledge as evidenced by his incredible journey. He is perhaps remembered best for his optimistic spirit and his generous love of others. Born Edwin Anthony Barnicle, Jr. on November 15, 1932, in University City, Missouri, Tony was raised in the St. Louis area where he attended St. Louis University and earned his industrial engineering degree. Shortly after college, Tony enlisted in the United States Air Force to serve his country and pursue his dream of becoming a pilot. After three years of service, Tony felt called by his faith to attend St. Joseph's Missionary Society of Mill Hill, England, where he became a catholic priest, dedicating 13 years of his life to missionary work. While teaching in Cameroon, Africa, he met his future wife and love of his life, Lorraine, thus marking the beginning of his next and greatest adventure - a family of his own. They married on January 15, 1972, and settled in Jefferson City, Missouri, where they welcomed their sons, Rob and Matt. In the years that followed, Tony pursued many ventures that fed his entrepreneurial spirit and his altruistic nature which included the establishment of organized credit unions throughout Africa; ownership of an information systems company, Data Way Inc.; and various state and local government positions as well as service on a variety of boards focused on community and economic development. Most recently, Tony was an adjunct professor at Lincoln and William Woods universities. As his final act of generosity, Tony donated his body to his father's alma mater, the A. T. Still University of Osteopathic Medicine in Kirksville, Missouri. Tony is preceded in death by his parents, Edwin Anthony Barnicle, Sr. and Ellen Elizabeth (Quirk) Barnicle. He is survived by his wife, Lorraine (Arsenault) Barnicle; son Rob Barnicle, wife Lisa and granddaughters Chelsea and Delaney, Kansas City, Missouri; son Matt Barnicle, San Francisco, California; sister Dorrit O'Hallaron and husband Neil, and brother Bob Barnicle and wife Penny, St. Louis, Missouri; Lorraine's surviving siblings; and many nieces, nephews and cousins. Services: A memorial service and Mass will be held at the Our Lady of the Snows Catholic Church in Mary's Home, Missouri, on Sunday, March 8, 2015. Visitors may greet the family starting at 11 a.m.; Mass will begin at 12 p.m.; lunch to be provided after the service. In lieu of flowers and gifts, the family kindly requests donations to the following organizations or charity of choice. Our Lady of the Snows Parish, 274 Highway H, Eugene, MO 65032.
