Weinhaus, Sara Jane (nee Bermi), June 9, 1921 - May 24, 2016. Beloved wife of the late Dr. Robert Weinhaus; devoted mother of Carol Weinhaus and Richard (Karen) Weinhaus; beloved grandmother of Josh Weinhaus and Sonia Weinhaus; devoted sister of Sydine Fredman and Samuel Bermi; aunt and friend to many; dear friend of Coleen Duchild, Janet Clenendin and Kate Walsh who cared for Jane with utmost love and devotion. Jane was an outstanding scholar at Soldan High School and Washington University. She taught English at University City High School. She loved her family, her friends, her students, reading, mindfulness meditation, music, her garden and the many cats who visited her over the years. A special thank you to St. Luke's Hospice Care and their dedicated staff and caregivers. Services: A service in Jane's memory will be held at 10:00 a.m. on Friday, May 27 at BERGER Memorial Chapel, 9430 Olive Boulevard, Olivette, Missouri, 63132. Wilson, Carole J. (nee Syzdek), Fortified with the Sacraments of Holy Mother Church on Friday, May 20, 2016. Beloved wife of Martin D. Wilson for 27 and a half years; dear mother of Brendan; dear daughter of Jo Ann and the late Stanley Syzdek; dear sister of Debbie (Jack) Lay, Denise (Joe) Samuelson, Karen O'Dell, and Sherri (Brad) Moore; dear daughter-in-law of Mary and the late Robert Wilson; dear aunt, cousin, and friend to many. Carole was so courageous and inspirational in her 27-year fight with Multiple Sclerosis, always the outgoing face of the family. Dressing nicely and having her hair done were important, but her strong faith and love of the church sustained her. She loved her son and husband and was very close to her extended family as well. Carole enjoyed going to the pool, belonging to the book club with her friends and she was a huge Cardinals fan. She was always a smiling bright light and beautiful inside and out. Services: Visitation Wed., May 25, 10 am at Ste. Genevieve du Bois Catholic Church, Warson Woods, followed by funeral Mass at 11 am. Interment, Calvary Cemetery, Edwardsville, Il. Wangelin, Freda  
Wangelin, Freda 93, widow of U.S. District Judge H. Kenneth Wangelin, died Sunday, May 15, 2016, at her home in Poplar Bluff. Mrs. Wangelin, daughter of the late Ura Vincent Buffington and Beulah Short Buffington, was born on Aug. 10, 1922. She grew up in Carter County, graduated from Van Buren High School and married Harris Kenneth Wangelin on June 27, 1939. Judge Wangelin died in 1987. Freda was a loving, kind, generous, good-natured and gracious parent and friend who always had a smile. She was active in many civic, cultural and charitable projects both in Poplar Bluff and in St. Louis, where she lived for 13 years while her husband served as chief judge on the U.S. District Court for the Eastern District of Missouri. Freda was highly sought as a partner on the Duplicate Bridge Circuit in St. Louis and achieved the Life Master designation there. She enjoyed playing bridge with a variety of friends. Freda was a member of the St. Louis Junior League and P.E.O. She was active in the American Cancer Society, Republican politics and was considered a delightful asset to her husband when he served as the Missouri Republican Party Chairman. She was smart, savvy and a positive influence on her husband and family. Mrs. Wangelin is survived by a daughter, Judith Wangelin Scott, and her husband, attorney L. Joe Scott; a grandson, John Frederick Scott and his wife, Kendra Brinkley Scott, both attorneys, and two great-grandchildren, John Harris Jack Scott and Katherine Brinkley Kate Scott, all of Poplar Bluff. She also is survived by one brother, James Short Buffington, Cabot, Ark., and a devoted care giver, Ruth Eastwood. Freda also was a special aunt to many nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by an infant daughter, Janet Alice Wangelin; a grandson, Joseph Harris Scott; two sisters, Marie Starks and Wilma Ball, and three brothers, Howard Buffington, Forrest Buffington and Lawrence Buffington. The funeral, directed by Cotrell Funeral Service, was at 1 p.m. Wednesday, May 18, at the First Baptist Church in Poplar Bluff. Officiating was the Rev. Dr. William A. Vail, senior pastor at First Baptist, and the Rev. David Huck, associate pastor at First United Methodist Church in Poplar Bluff. Burial was in the Poplar Bluff City Cemetery.
