Obituaries from the Past Three Days

Fluri, Pauline B.
Fluri, Pauline B. (nee Bangert), died peacefully at the age of 93 on Thur., June 16, 2016. Beloved wife of the late Clifford Edward Fluri; dear mother and mother-in-law of Gene (Marcia Hart) Fluri, Tom (Jeanne) Fluri and Jim (Kathy) Fluri; dear grandmother of Mariam, Katherine Susanne and Andrew Fluri; dear sister of the late Roy (Dorothy) Bangert. Pauline was all about family and friends. From the countless hours she spent as the number one fan at Tom and Gene's tennis tournaments and Jim's baseball games to caring for her beloved Cliff later in life, family came first. She cherished every moment she spent with her three grandchildren, Mariam, Susanne and Andrew. She thoroughly enjoyed working with her two sons for 15 years at Town and Country Racquet Club as office manager, bookkeeper, tennis fill-in and as the best goodwill ambassador any club could have. Pauline was an avid tennis player, voracious reader, loved her volunteer work at Mercy and later in life took up golf. Her hole in one at Greenbriar Hills was a moment no one will forget. She treasured her lifelong friends from Ferguson and was so grateful for her younger friends from Town and Country and Greenbriar with whom she enjoyed so many lunches, dinners, and bike trips throughout the US and Europe and the time they spent with her the last few months. She felt so fortunate. Pauline was loved by all and will be so missed by so many. Services: A celebration of her life will begin with visitation at the ORTMANN STIPANOVICH Funeral Home, 12444 Olive Blvd., Creve Coeur, Wed., June 29, 4-8 p.m. Funeral Services at Zion Lutheran Church, 123 Carson Rd., Ferguson, Thurs., June 30, 1 p.m. Reception at 2 p.m. at Greenbriar Hills Country Club, 12665 Big Bend Blvd., Kirkwood, MO 63122. Interment private. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Ready Readers, 1974 Innerbelt Business Center Dr., St. Louis, MO 63114, St. Louis County Library Foundation, 1640 S. Lindbergh Blvd., St. Louis, MO 63131 or Mercy Hospice, 1000 Des Peres Rd., Suite 200B, St. Louis, MO 63131.

Goodwin, Bridget Mary
Goodwin, Bridget Mary (nee O'Sullivan) 86, Thursday, June 23, 2016, of St. Louis. Beloved wife of the late Don Kelso Goodwin, Sr., of St. Louis; dear mother of Kevin Goodwin of Seattle, Kathleen (John) Butler of St. Louis, Don (Roxanne) Goodwin, Jr. of Minneapolis, Diane (Moira) Goodwin of Portland and Donna Goodwin of Chicago; dear sister of Nancy Heavey of Cahirciveen, County Kerry, Ireland; our dear grandmother of five, sister-in-law, aunt, great-aunt, cousin and friend. Born in her family's ancestral home in Reenard and raised in Fermoyle, Cahirciveen, County Kerry, Ireland, the adventurous young Bridie sailed the Atlantic alone from the Port of Cobh, County Cork at the age of nineteen on the SS Marine Tiger. She worked in Providence, RI for two years as a housekeeper for several prominent families. Yearning for a bit more excitement, she moved to New York City two years later with a girlfriend. After a while, her girlfriend returned to Providence but Bridie stayed in NYC, living with relatives and later, on her own, in boarding homes. There she met an American sailor at a local Irish pub, marrying him only three months later. After settling in Park Forest, IL, Bridget raised five children while working full-time in home furnishing sales and cooking nightly dinners from scratch. Bridget never met a stranger and was universally known for her open and friendly Irish demeanor. Through her innate courage, extraordinary work ethic, adventurous spirit, and openness to all, Bridget exemplified the spirit of the American immigrant who came for a better life, only to fall in love with its people; leaving her stitch in the fabric we call America. Services: Funeral at the ORTMANNSTIPANOVICH Funeral Home, 12444 Olive Blvd., Creve Coeur, Monday, June 27, 2016, 11:30 a.m. with visitation from 9:30 a.m. until service. Interment Jefferson Barracks National Cemetery. Bridget didn't always have enough to eat as a child and she always hated to see any child go hungry. In lieu of flowers, contributions to the St. Louis Area Foodbank appreciated.
