Arthur H. Bedian

Bedian, Arthur H. 90, of Glen Carbon, IL, formerly of Granite City, IL, passed away on Wednesday, February 27, 2013 at Meridian Village, Glen Carbon, IL. Arthur was born on August 28, 1922 in Granite City, IL, a son to the late Asadour and Elizabeth (Yeghiazarian) Bedian. Arthur played on the Granite City High School basketball team that won the 1940 State Championship. He proudly served his country during World War II in the Army Air Corp. On October 18, 1942 he married Mary T. Knekleian, the love of his life in Detroit, MI and she preceded him in death on November 6, 2004. Arthur was a life long member of St. Gregory Armenian Apostolic Church, Granite City, IL, where he served as past Chairman of the Board of Trustees, a member of the Armenian Revolutionary Federation, a Charter member of the Armenian Youth Federation and was a member of the Daron Band. He had worked for Emerson Electric as a property accountant. Arthur will be sadly missed by all who knew and loved him. In addition to his parents and wife, Arthur was preceded in death by his sister, Sue Newman. Arthur is survived by his loving children, Lisa (Robert) Kurtz of St. Charles, MO and Greg (Silva) Bedian of Arlington Heights, IL; grandchildren, Knar, Garin and Daron; sister, Carolyn (George) Chalmers of Middletown, NJ; many nieces, nephews, great nieces, great nephews and extended family and friends. Services: Visitation: friends may call from 5-8 p.m. on Sunday, March 3, at Irwin Chapel, 3960 Maryville Rd., Granite City, IL with a prayer service at 7 p.m. In celebration of his life, funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. on Monday, March 4, at St. Gregory Armenian Apostolic Church, Granite City, IL with Father Stephan Baljian officiating. According to Arthur's wishes he will be cremated. Private interment will be held at Sunset Hill Memorial Estates, Glen Carbon, IL. The Bedian family would like to extend a special thank you to the Meridian Village Staff, especially to the care givers in the Hummingbird Lane Unit and to Hospice of Southern Illinois.
