Charles T. (Ted) Berger

Berger, Charles T. (Ted) died peacefully on Sep 7, 2013 at Missouri Veterans Home. A special thanks to the staff there and at Heartland Hospice Care, Manor Grove (Kirkwood), and Sarah Care (Webster Groves). He is survived by JoAnn (Kemoll), his wife of 60 years, children Julia V. Hale (Dennis), Charles T. Berger, Jr. (Jody), Kathryn G. Berger, Andrew J. Berger (Natalie Pelafos), and Mary Beth Baken (John), 10 grandchildren, and 2 great grandchildren. Brother of the late Peg Murphy and Robert Berger of Texas. Brother-in-law of Mary Grace Cusumano and uncle to many nieces and nephews. Born in 1929 in El Dorado, Kansas, Ted graduated from Kirkwood High School and, in 1953, from Washington University Architecture School. He served as an officer in the U.S. Navy from 1953-56. He worked for HOK and Harris Armstrong before forming his own firm, Berger, Field, Torno, & Hurley. He later contributed to the rebirth of Soulard and other historic St. Louis neighborhoods, designing renovations of many buildings with Mead McClellan, BSB Development, and others, including his own sons. According to his wishes, body donated to St. Louis University Medical School. Services: A celebration of Ted's life will be held on October 13. In lieu of flowers, his family suggests that friends make contributions to their favorite charities.
