Tillman, Judge Daniel Died July 23, 2014 from complications of Alzheimer's Disease. He was born August 30, 1927 in Wadesboro, North Carolina, the first child of Nellie Maske and Daniel Forman Tillman. After graduating from high school he was drafted into the Army. Following an Honorable Discharge from the Army, he enrolled at North Carolina A&T University, graduating with a B.A. Degree, then to Georgetown University Law School in Washington. D.C. where he graduated in 1954 (second class of African American students admitted). While there he met and later married his wife of nearly 58 years. He migrated to St. Louis, MO later in 1954 in search of a place to set up a Law Practice. He was associated first with Attorney Robert Witherspoon, then with Attorney Alphonso Lynch. He also taught at Hubbard Business College. He became politically interested, realizing the need for voting to help change conditions. He served in positions as Assistant Attorney General for the State of Missouri, Assistant Prosecuting Attorney for St. Louis City, Assistant Circuit Attorney for St. Louis City. In November 1970 he was appointed by Governor Warren Hearnes as Circuit Judge for the State of Missouri, 22nd Division where he served until he retired in 1997. He loved his work and was always eager to encourage students and share his experiences with young lawyers. He was active in Community Organizations. A Golden Life Member of NAACP, Board Member of former Harris Stowe Teachers College, Board Member of Urban League of St. Louis, Board of PTA. Professional Organizations, American Bar Association, National Bar Association, Served as President of the Missouri Trial Judges Association. He was an original member of Cote Brillliante Presbyterian Church. Also a 40+ Member of Sigma Pi Phi Fraternity, Eta Boule. He leaves to cherish his memories, Wife, Dr. Mary A.T. Tillman, Daughter, Dana Chee (Tyrone), Son, Dr. Daniel T. Tillman, Jr (Dr. Laura), Grandchildren, Allison Chee, Devin Chee, Isabelle Tillman. Brother, Dr. Otis E. Tillman, Sr. (Barbara). Many nieces, nephews and cousins. Services: Visitation at Austin Layne Normandy Chapel, 7733 Natural Bridge Road, 63121 on Sunday, July 27 from 4:00 pm until 7:00 pm. Funeral Service Monday, July 28, 10:00 am at Cote Brilliante Presbyterian Church, 4673 Labadie Avenue, 63115. Interment at Jefferson Barracks National Cemetery.
