Donald E. Boland

Boland, Donald E. of Las Vegas passed away Easter Morning, March 31, 2013 at his retirement home. He was 95, born March 23, 1918 to George and Jessie Boland in Williamsburg, Iowa. Prior to moving to Las Vegas, Donald had lived in St. Louis, Missouri for over 35 years. A WWII veteran, Donald achieved the rank of Captain while stationed over seas in the Army. He was a graduate of Iowa State in the college of Architectural Engineering. Donald met his wife Elizabeth Jean Thompson (Betty) while working at Pittsburgh Des Moines Steel Company in Des Moines, Iowa. He was preceded in death by his wife Betty after they had been married for over 50 years. Donald is survived by his four sons, James (Judy), John, Keith (Lori) and Robert (Margo), his eight grandchildren; Paige (Mark), Jeffrey (Gretchen), Brian (Bonnie), Keith, Becky, John Jr., Trevor, and Lilli, and 2 great grandchildren Brian Jr., and Priscilla. Many of his family members were in Las Vegas the preceding week to celebrate his birthday. In addition to the previously mentioned family, Donald is survived by his sister Kathleen Schwanz, and extended family. Donald will be remembered as a kind and loving man who enjoyed his family and family gatherings, saving many pictures and cards of the events. He often referred to himself as silly grandpa. Services: Memorial services will be held at 11AM on Tuesday, April 9, at Green Valley Presbyterian Church 1798 Wigwam Parkway, Henderson, NV. Interment services will be held at 10:30AM on Friday, May 17 at Jefferson Barracks National Cemetery in St. Louis, Missouri.
