Jane Collins Allen

Allen, Jane Collins Jane Collins Allen, Fortified with the Sacraments of Holy Mother Church, on Wednesday, December 5, 2012. She was born October 5, 1917 in St. Louis, MO. Beloved wife for 56 years of the late Jerome Allen. She was preceded in death by her parents Richard and Helen O'Brien Collins. Sister of Richard Collins (Punch). Mother of Haskell Allen (Nancy), Elizabeth Richard (Larry), Anne LaVigne (Gene) and Jane Milliman (Curt); grandmother of Kevin, Katie, Andrew, David (Chrissy), Meg (Dan), Julie (Nick), Nellie, Emily, Chris, Ted, Carolyn, and great grandmother of Henry and Nora. Jane attended City House, Maryville, St. Luke's Nursing School, and later SLU and Washington University. She became one of the first Navy nurses in WWII, serving at a hospital in Seattle where she met her first husband, Lt.jg. John P. Sanderson, a pilot who was lost in the Pacific during the Battle for the Marianas less than a year later. Upon her return to St. Louis, she worked at St. Luke's Hospital and at that time met and married Jerry. She was the school nurse for City House until it's closing, and then worked in the University City schools for many years. She was very involved in her children's lives, and life itself. She was a member of the Missouri Botanical Garden, Art Museum, History Museum, Symphony and other institutions. She was an avid bridge player and belonged to a book club and quilting club. She was an active member of Our Lady of Lourdes for over sixty years. Jane and Jerry spent summers at their beloved cottage in Douglas, Michigan, and Jane was often seen walking her dog along the shore. Thanks to all her friends and family for years of fun! Services: A Memorial Mass will be celebrated at Our Lady of Lourdes Catholic Church, Forsyth at Asbury, University City, on Saturday, December 22 at 11:00 am. The family will receive friends at the Church Saturday morning beginning at 10:30 am. In lieu of flowers, please donate to Forest Park Forever, , or one our cities' treasures.
