Callanan, John F.X. from St. Louis, fortified with the sacraments of the Holy Mother Church, passed away peacefully from this life on April 4, 2014 at the age of 92. He is survived by his beloved wife of 66 years, Helen J. (nee Pretak) Callanan; loving father of Timothy (Kathleen), Daniel, Kevin, Patrick (Margaret), Kathleen Callanan, Mary (John) Cooley and the late Glennon Callanan; dear grandfather of Christy Pogue, Karen Schneider, Brian, David, Stephen, Amy, Sandra, and Glennon Callanan, Gregory, Robert and Michael Haupt and Matthew, Adam and Jeffrey Cooley; great-grandfather of 9; dear brother of Dorthea Sullivan of Texas and the late James, Robert and Michael Callanan, Ruth Helm and Lucilla Warren; dear uncle, great-uncle, cousin and friend to many. John was born May 21, 1921 in St. Louis, the son of George and Ruth (nee Ellis) Callanan. He graduated from McBride High School in 1939. He served his country with honor in WWII
in the U. S. Navy. He earned an accounting degree from St. Louis University in 1948 and a law degree in 1953. He worked at Union Electric Co. for 38 years while concurrently practicing law. He served in many leadership roles in Holy Name Society, American Management Association, American Bar Association and St. Raphael the Archangel Catholic parish. He kept God center in his life and was one to serve and think of others first. He had a great joy for life, worked hard to provide for his family and always had ice cream in the freezer. Services: Visitation at KUTIS AFFTON Chapel, 10151 Gravois, Tuesday, April 8, 4-8 p.m. with Prayer Service at Kutis Affton, Wednesday, 9:30 a.m. to St. Raphael's Catholic Church for 10 a.m. Mass.
