Robert E. Bell

Bell, Robert E. retired Ralston Purina Company executive, passed away on April 28, 2013. Bob was a Senior Vice President and Ralston's first African American Corporate Officer. He came to Ralston from Foodmaker, Inc. in San Diego, California where he was Vice President of National Operations, Jack-InThe-Box Division. He was part of Ralston's acquisition team for the purchase of Continental Baking Company, and also of Energizer Holdings (formerly Eveready Battery Co.) in 1987. He was later a Senior Vice President of Energizer. After his retirement from Ralston (Energizer) in 1988, Bob formed a consortium of business consultants, Robert E. Bell & Associates. Bob was always active with business, civic and community organizations in California and Missouri. He served on the California Job Development Board under President Ronald Reagan while he was Governor of California. Bob also served on the Los Angeles Mayor's Advisory Council under Mayor Thomas Bradley and was an Advisor to the federal government's Small Business Administration based in Washington, D.C. When Bob relocated to Missouri, he maintained his commitment to activism and service both locally and on a state level. He served on many boards and the following are only a few of them: - Missouri Health & Education Facility Authority (MOHEFA) / Chairman -The Urban League of Metropolitan St. Louis / Chairman - St. Louis Black Leadership Round Table / Co-Founder and Convener - Private Industry Council of the City of St. Louis / Chairman - United Way of Greater St. Louis - Governor's Literacy Advisory Committee Bob was a devoted husband, father and grandfather to his wife Rose-Marie, his son Robert A. Bell of Roselle, New Jersey, his daughters Alison Norcis Bell and Susan Marie Bell of St. Louis, and his grandson Brooks Hawkins. Services: Visitation will be Friday, May 3, 2013 from 3pm until 8pm at St. Timothy's Episcopal Church, 808 North Mason Road, St. Louis, MO 63141. Requiem Mass will be Saturday, May 4, 2013 at 11am also at St. Timothy's. Transitional arrangements by WILLIAM C. HARRIS Funeral Directors.
