Sue D. Burklund

Burklund, Sue D. a native of Paxton, IL, died September 29, 2013 at her home in Twin Oaks, MO after a battle with cancer. She was born at home in rural Paxton on September 16, 1941, the youngest of five children of Carl and Alice Burklund. Her parents, sister Millie and three brothers Richard, William and Lemuel Red, all preceded her in death. She was raised by her aunt, Mildred Burklund Pacey and her uncle E.J. Pacey, both of whom also preceded her in death. She is survived by nieces and nephews, including Richard, Jr., KIm and Robert; by cousins including Gerald Burklund; by her extended Burklund and Pacey family and by many long time friends in the St. Louis area. She graduated from Paxton Community High School as Valedictorian in 1959 and attended the University of Illinois, graduating in 1963. While at the U. of I. she tutored members of the fighting Illini football team, among other activities. She was a career Federal Civil Service employee, working as a computer programmer for the Department of Defense, initially at Rock Island, IL and then in St. Louis for over 30 yrs. until retirement. Sue enjoyed her cars and owned a number of interesting vehicles during her lifetime. She was a water skier, canoe enthusiast, and hiker, among her many lifetime interests. In recent years, she enjoyed bowling and working for her church in a variety of capacities. Burial was at Glen Cemetery in Paxton, IL on October 11, 2013. A Memorial service at her church, the Manchester United Methodist Church, Manchester, MO will be held October 25, at 12:30pm. Memorials are suggested to one of the St. Louis charities of which she was a long time supporter: Forest Park Forever, Missouri Botanical Gardens, The St. Louis Symphony, Manchester United Methodist Church, or a .
