Frederick C. Fiddmont

Fiddmont, Frederick C. passed away on Sunday, May 19, 2013, from complications of Alzheimer's disease. He was the seventh of twelve children born to Reverend and Mrs. James E. Fiddmont of Maplewood. His parents and nine of his twelve siblings preceded him in death. After elementary and middle school in Maplewood, Fred attended Douglas High School where he excelled academically and was a member of the 1946 championship Douglas High School football team. He attended the University of Arkansas at Pine Bluff on a football scholarship while pursuing a degree in business administration. His college work was interrupted when he was called to serve his country during the Korean conflict, after which he returned to school earning his degree in 1954. He returned to live in Maplewood, MO, where he was the first AfricanAmerican to be elected to the Maplewood Richmond Heights school board. Fred retired from the U. S. Postal Service in 1989. He is survived by his wife Dr. Dorothy Magett-Fiddmont, his son Keith and daughter Lynn, six grandchildren, his sister Doris Fiddmont Frazier, his brother The Reverend Norman S. Fiddmont, and a host of relatives and friends. Services will be held on Friday, May 24, 2013 at Mt. Zion Baptist Church, 1500 South Hanley Rd. Richmond Heights, Mo. Visitation: 10:00 a.m. to 12:00 Noon. Funeral: 12:00 Noon.
