Paul Taylor Obituary

Taylor, Paul Melburne Paul Melburne Taylor passed away peacefully on Tuesday, September 25, 2012, at the age of 88. Paul Taylor was an adoring husband to his wife of 59 years, Patricia Newport Taylor, a loving father to his children and a doting grandfather. He grew up in St. Louis and graduated from Clayton High School. Paul enlisted in the U. S. Army during the Second World War and was stationed in Alaska. After the war, he began working in the automotive industry where he became a well-respected mentor and a leader to many. Paul first joined the Lindbergh Cadillac organization in St. Louis. After managing a dealer group in Tuscon, Arizona, Paul moved to San Francisco, California where he went on to manage what was then the largest Lincoln-Mercury dealership in the country. He later returned to St. Louis and joined what was then known as Enterprise-Rent-A-Car, After his retirement in 2003, he focused on his passions - his family, travel, golf and playing his beloved piano. Paul was generous, brave and above all, kind to those who had the pleasure of meeting him. All who knew Paul recognized his love of life and spirit. We are all grateful for the time we had with him as a family and friend and he will be greatly missed. Paul Taylor is survived by his wife Patricia Newport Taylor; his children, Donald Altvater, Pamela Taylor, Cary Taylor and E. Lindsey Taylor; his seven granchildren, Hunter Altvater, Eliza Altvater, Taylor Olson, Ellis Altvater, Jennifer Ovington, Kaitlin Ovington, Francesca Pavone; his brother Jack Taylor, his nephew Andrew Taylor and niece JoAnn Kindle. I remember working occasionally with Paul when I was with Enterprise many years ago - during the era of Johnny Montgomery, Carl Garber, and Greg Janik. He always had a soft smile on his face and kind eyes. Pam (Gieseking) Cline

I was saddened to read of Paul Taylor's passing. I worked at the Lincoln-Mercury dealership in San Francisco almost 40 years ago, as a secretary while I was in college. I still remember the boss, "Mr. Taylor," and how kind he was to me and to others. I can still see him walking around the showroom and offices, hands in pockets. He always took time to say hello and say a few words, and he treated everyone with respect. My deepest condolences to the family.

Dear Pat,

It is with great sadness that we all have read in our Tucson paper that you lost your hubby. He was a fine man and has left many friends. I am sorry we haven't heard from either of you in awhile but we have kept track of you through Leroy. I talked to Leroy last month and he is still there in California. You still have a lot of friends here in Tucson and don't be afraid to call on us if we may be of any service what so ever. It seems a longtime ago when I first meet you has you arrived in Phoenix. God bless you.

I met Paul in the mid-1980's when I was transferred to St. Louis by General Motors. He was a true gentleman. I always respected his knowledge of the retail automobile industry. My sincere condolences to his family.
