Met John when I was transferred to St. Louis with RPCo from Cincinnati. John and I shared many service related stories due to the same Army Security Agency "brotherhood". My thoughts and prayers are with the family. Jon Hale

I met John in April 1974 at the University of Illinois when he recruited me as a young engineer to work at Ralston Purina. I had spent two years in the Army prior to entering graduate school and we shared army stories during the interview process. I was impressed with John's integrity and character. It epitomized the Ralston Purina standards that he Danforth family had instilled in the company from its foundation.

John offered me an interview with the engineering department. I was accepted and went on to a fifteen-year career with Ralston Purina followed by twenty years with Anheuser-Busch. I moved to St. Louis as a result of the opportunity John provided me and met my wife and raised a family here.

Last year I met John again at the Lodge in Des Peres and had the good fortune to thank him for the help he had provided me. I am sure there are many stories like this. He will be remembered with great gratitude in our prayers.

John and I often traveled on the same plane together on Sunday nights, off to one of America's universities to recruit students. . .he for Ralston and I for Monsanto. Even though we were "competing" for the same good students, we shared a great friendship, often having dinner together. He and I continued this relationship long after we both retired. He was a great person.

Our sincere condolences to Jere, Anne, David and the extended Rieser family on their loss. My uncle was the consummate professional who served his country, the St. Louis business community, his fraternity and his university with fierce dedication and great distinction. What he loved best, even more than his prized Airedales, was his family. He took great pride in his wife, his children and his grandchildren and all their accomplishments. Few things got him more worked up than a friendly political discussion with his sister Mary. He was a source of inspiration and great professional advice to me, even if his Mizzou Tigers kept beating my mascot-less Illini. There are many happy memories of times together over the years. John was well loved and will be sorely missed.
