Flake was the most respected engineer and leader from industry at the Air Force Research Laboratory (AFRL) in his time. When Flake came to Dayton to brief AFRL, their engineers rearranged their schedules to hear his perspective.

To the Campbell Family, I am a friend of Flake's from many days gone by -- at Myers Park High School in Charlotte. We played football together -- actually he played (and he was beyond great); I was on the bench most of the time -- and we spent a month together at a Young Life camp in Colorado working with inner city kids, a great eye-opening, learning and growing experience for us both. Our paths diverged after that -- Flake to NC State, me to UNC -- then he to St. Louis and me to Washington. But, and this is the important part, I have always thought of Flake when my mind returns to my growing up days in Charlotte, the lasting friendships I made there, and those I admired most. Flake Campbell will always remain in my thoughts and now prayers.

Betty and Family
We are very sad and have difficulity believing Flake's passing. Many great memories of our families growing up and moving on to better things. It is impssible to accept that Flake was the first too move on to a better place, after so many years as neighbor and teammate. Mary Ann's eye surgery was succesful but did keep us away from Flake's service. Our prayers our sympathy are with "you-all" Betty, Lindsey and Steve.

Betty and family -
I'm so sorry to hear of Flake's passing. I worked with him for many years in both Industrial Engineering and Technology Development and he was loved and respected by many. He will be missed. Our prayers go out to you and your family.

Dear Flake's family. My heartfelt sympathy to you all. Flake touched all our hearts in Sheffield during the time he spent here helping us set up our research centers. I would like to extend my deepest sympathy for your loss. I had the good fortune to know and work with Flake for quite a few years. I will remember him fondly as a friend, co-worker, and as a fine engineer, but most of all, as a true gentleman. We will all miss him.

Betty and family - Very sad to hear of Flake's passing. Flake was a tremendous help to us in Sheffield, UK, when we established the AMRC Composite Centre. He leaves a tremendous legacy of the bright young engineers he inspired and trained, working in a fantastic facility, built and equipped with his advice and guidance.

Betty and Family,
I worked with Flake on several projects while at McDonnell Douglas. He was a well respected co-worker, and a gentleman to all. I will miss him at our "old coots" gatherings, as well as on the course. You are in our thoughts and prayers this evening.

Betty - very sorry to hear of Flake's passing. As with a few others, I have really good memories of many, many rounds of golf with Flake, and his truly unique approach to playing - and scoring - the game. I'll treasure the clubs that he personally fabricated for me, along with the signed copy of the last book he authored. I hope you find comfort in the fact that he will be missed by so many. Betty,
Sorry for your loss. It will also be a loss for me. Flake was the best. I'll never forget playing golf with him at Dardenne especially one winter day when it was 10 degrees. It was so cold he cracked a ball that day. You bet he loved golf.

To the Campbell Family, We are very sad to hear of Flake's passing. I (Dick) will have many fond memories of all the rounds of golf with Flake. I will often laugh at Flake's philosophy about the game of golf "It's a mystery". We're in Texas for the winter otherwise we would be there to visit at the Chapel. Again, our sympathy. Betty and Family,
I was very sorry to hear about Flake. Flake was a good friend and golf partner. We always played by Flakes rules of golf, which I am sure the USGA would not approve. Our scores were always better than they should have been. Golf was a game he loved to play and I have many good memories of our times out on the course.
