John was a good friend and colleague. I first met him at Argonne at a High Temperature Chemistry Conference, either in the late 60s or early 70s. We interacted mostly as members of the leadership of the St. Louis Section of the ACS where John served as Section Chair, Secretary, Editor of the Chemical Bond and also as a columnist for many years. He was also a champion of faculty rights at Lindenwood College where he led the chemistry program for many years.
