John Lucas Obituary

Lucas, John B. C. John B. C. Lucas 1924 - 2015 Passed away peacefully on September 3, 2015, at the age of 91 with his wife, children and grandchildren at his side. A descendant of Jean Baptiste Charles Lucas, one of the early French settlers of the City of St. Louis, John was born in St. Louis on May 21, 1924. He attended the Cathedral School, Our Lady of Lourdes, and St. Louis University High School (Class of 1942). Shortly after graduating from high school, John joined the United States Army where he fought with valor in the Pacific Theatre including the Battles of Leyte, Okinawa, and the Marshall Islands. John married the love of his life, Mary Ring Schulz, in 1954. John is survived by Mary, their children Suzie Echelmeyer (Tom), Jean Baptiste Charles Lucas IV (Linda), Tom Lucas, and Ted Lucas (Jenny), nine grandchildren Katy Morris (Kevin), John Echelmeyer, Erin Echelmeyer, Tom Echelmeyer, Hunt Lucas, Maria Lucas, Megan Lucas, Jean Baptiste Charles Lucas V, Sam Lucas and five great grandchildren Will, Molly, Jack, Matthew, and Max Morris. John was preceded in death by his sister Elizabeth Lucas Gilbert and his granddaughters Christine and Emily Lucas. John graduated from St. Louis University in 1950. In addition to working as a fine arts appraiser for Fidelity Appraisal for many years, retiring in 1994, John was the Chairman of the Normandy Fire Protection District for several years during the 1970's and 1980's. John was an avid boater and a great lover of the outdoors who spent many an opening day at Missouri's beautiful trout streams, but he most loved spending time with his family. John was always ready to tell a great joke or a good story, or to help a friend in need, and he was devoted to his wife, children and country. He will be greatly missed. Services: The Funeral Mass will be celebrated at Our Lady of Lourdes Catholic Church, Forsyth at Asbury, University City on Wednesday, September 9 at 10 a.m. Interment immediately following at Calvary Cemetery. Memorial gifts may be made to St. Louis University High School or to a charity of one's choice. The family will receive friends at THE LUPTON CHAPEL, 7233 Delmar Blvd., University City on Tuesday from 4 until 8 p.m. A SERVICE OF THE LUPTON CHAPEL

Following these news regarding John Baptist Charles Lucas (1924-2015), I would like to contact his son Jean Baptiste Charles Lucas IV or his grandson Jean Baptiste Charles Lucas V (born in 1995), who are mentioned in the obituary, about our common ancestry in Pont-Audemer, Normandie, France. Would you please be so kind as to let them have my e-mail address ([email protected])? Many thanks. My prayers of course for John and his family.

I have many good memories of Bud. From dining out at Spiros to hayrides in Clarksville. He was a survivor of a neck injury that must have been very painful. He lost a wonderful sister and brother in law and yet continued to live a good life due to a loving family. Good friends like Bud are hard to find and I will miss him.

Thanks for sharing Ralph with me; he acted like another Father towards me. Ask Charlie and Tommy about the "Ralph" comment; it should bring a smile to their faces.
