Louis Payne Obituary

Payne, Louis D. Died peacefully at age 91 on Wednesday, June 26, 2013, having lived a full and vibrant life. Born in New Market, Ala. On Oct. 24, 1921 to Virginia and Phil, the only child. Beloved husband of Adelaide (Jaehnig) Payne for 50 years, who preceded him in death. Loving father of David (Amy) Payne and Jill (Allan) Schroer. Cherished grandfather of Louis, Lily, Elsie, Charlie and Lizzie. Louis Payne served in the signal corps during WWII, including the battle of Iwo Jima. He founded the Saginaw Valley Division of Motor City Electric in Flint, Mich. In 1954. He renamed the firm Payne Electric and moved it to St. Louis in 1958 where it performed innumerable projects for the local manufacturing industry. He retired in 1986. The company merged with Crest Electric in 2000 to become PayneCrest Electric and Communications, one of the region's largest electric contractors. Services: Visitation at the ORTMANN STIPANOVICH Funeral Home, 12444 Olive Blvd., Creve Coeur, Sat., June 29 from 10 a.m. until 1:00 p.m. In lieu of flowers, please consider visiting the Missouri-Cottleville page at the Alzheimer's Association at www.alz.org and donating to Team Payne in the Walk to End Alzheimer's.

Your father and mother were truly my "saving grace' when I was 16 years old and virtually alone. I don't know where I would be now if they had not offered for me to live in the safety of their loving home (and with my friend Jill) for a year and graduate high school with my friends.
