Dennis J. Buhr

Buhr, Dennis J. passed away peacefully on Wednesday, June 19, 2013. Loving husband of Diane Buhr; devoted son of Lorraine Buhr and the late Vincent Buhr; loving father of Jennifer (Steve) Braud and Brian Buhr; loving stepfather of Christy Dorney and Karen (John) Dolan; loving step-grandfather of Margot, Kate and David Dolan. Services: Memorial Mass will be 2 p.m. Saturday, June 22, 2013 at Ascension Catholic Church, 230 Santa Maria Dr, Chesterfield, MO. Dennis received both his Bachelor and Master's degrees from Truman State University and his doctorate in educational administration from St. Louis University. Dennis had a 34 year career with the Special School District (SSD). He served as SSD Assistant Superintendent for 15 years. He then became Vice President of Sales for Technology Solutions, Inc. for 13 years. He believed strongly on giving back to his community. This was demonstrated by his service on numerous boards of local not-for-profit organizations. He was President of Life Skills, the Productive Living Board of St. Louis County (appointed by County Executive) and Gateway Homes, Inc. Additionally, he served on the board of Saint Mary's Rehabilitation Hospital, Father's Support Center and the advisory board of ITT. He was active in the Special Education Foundation. He is the recipient of the Council for Exceptional Children Joan Davis Award for Special Educator of the Year. He was honored as the Special Education Foundation's Heroes with Heart Award in 2012.
