Ernesta Mira Obituary

Mira, Ernesta Grace (nee Garner) Thursday, August 1, 2013. Beloved wife of the late Joseph John Mira, MD; dear sister of the late Elva, Lonis, Robert, Haskell and Henry; dear aunt, great aunt, cousin and friend to many. Ernesta was born July 22, 1918 in Burkesville, KY; the fifth of Cindora and James Garner's six children. She grew up in a railroad town Roodhouse, IL and dreamed of becoming a nurse. After graduating from Washington University as a nurse, she was called to active duty in the Army Nurse Corps and was sent to O'Reilly General Hospital in Springfield, MO where she married Joe on August 9, 1942. She and her husband settled and opened a medical practice in Alton, IL. When Ernesta was not working with Joe she spent her time volunteering with other agencies that allowed her to care for others. She had a passion for genealogy and spent many years compiling information about her family that she leaves behind for future generations. One of those writings ends with the quote, In life, when you have the big things, you don't let the little things bother you too much. She will be missed. Services: A roadside and military service were conducted privately at Jefferson Barracks National Cemetery. Memorials appreciated to the Alzheimer's Association.
