I only knew Hilda her last two years but I loved her with such devotion. She always brought a smile to my face and warmth in my heart. I feel honored to have known her. And I will never forget her smiles and kisses.

Hilda was a wonderful friend to me. We belonged to the MORBF together. That stands for Mothers of Really Big Families! Hilda and Harry had 8 children and Bill and I have 9. Around about the time we had our 5th baby I was feeling in quite a stupor. I ran into Hilda at Schnucks and asked her "How did you do it?" She told me straight out -- "Just put one foot in front of the other and keep going; one day you'll walk right out of the cloud!" What wonderful advice! It has served me well at many times in my life and I always thank her in my heart for her help. I asked her once how she felt when she found out about her twin sons. She said all she could think about was all the patches she would soon be sewing on the knees of their jeans!!! When we first moved to Brentwood Brian was our only child and one day he and I were out on our driveway and along comes a box turtle moving as fast as I've ever seen one go. When we picked him up we discovered the name BILL written in red nail polish on his back. The only other Bill than mine was Bill Schimweg so we tried to return the turtle to him. Hilda answered the door and told us we should just go ahead and keep the turtle. So he reigned in our backyard until we had accumulated 2 more sons who drove all the turtles, toads, snakes and other wildlife out! When I told my Marianne that Hilda had passed Marianne immediately remembered Hilda having given her jelly eggs! We would sit and chat and visit on her front porch swing and have jolly times. I always encouraged her to come down to my house (2 doors away) for a cup of tea or coffee and she would look at me and grin and say, "I would if I could remember where you lived!" My own Mom suffered from Alzheimer's and the terrible memory loss that goes with it. We will cherish the memory of our friend and good neighbor Hilda and we will miss her as we have missed her sweet smile and friendly wave since she moved away. May her soul rest in peace. We extend all our love and prayers and condolences to her family. You all, maybe without knowing it, helped all of us through the years just by being a nice, big family! LOVE, The Bill McKenzies
