John Callahan Obituary

Callahan, John J. Fortified with the Sacraments of Holy Mother Church, Sun. March 17, 2013. Born in St. Louis, MO, he was the son of James and Elizabeth Callahan. He is survived by his loving wife, Joanne (nee Sayban); his adoring children, Sean (Catherine) Callahan, Timothy (Cheryl) Callahan, Megan (Christopher) Peterson, and Courtney Callahan; his beloved grandchildren, Elizabeth, John, Patrick, Keegan and grandchild to be born in June; his siblings, James (Kathy) Callahan, Sister Carol Ann Callahan, RSM, and Kathleen Callahan; his sister-inlaw, Dianne (Kenneth) Rehagen; and many nieces, nephews and friends. Along with his parents, John looked forward to being reunited with his siblings, Robert (Beverly) Callahan, Patricia (Austin) McCormick and Donald Callahan; his nephew, Michael McCormick, and his niece, Pamela McCormick. John owned Callahan Business Forms for 25 years and worked for Concentric Sourcing for the past 5 years. John was blessed to have many wonderful friends from all circles of his life. Some of his closest friends remained those he met at St. Roch's, CBC and Rockhurst University so many years ago. During his adult life, he met many other great friends through work, handball and running. His Catholic faith was of the utmost importance to him, and he cherished his time and fellowship at the White House Retreat Center and his monthly Manresan Group. The strength he exhibited during his three year battle with cancer and his dignity at the end is an example that will not soon be forgotten by those who loved him. His family is greatly appreciative of the care rendered to him by Dr. Burton Needles and Dr. David Schlitt. While his family anguishes at the thought of life without him, they trust in his assurance that he will always be there. Services: Funeral Thurs. March 21, 9:30 AM from BOPP Chapel, 10610 Manchester Rd., Kirkwood to St. Gerard Majella Catholic Church for 10 AM Mass. Interment Calvary Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, and in honor of John's appreciation of his children's Catholic education, donations can be made in his name to SLUH, Ursuline Academy or St. Joseph's Academy. Mr. Callahan, you're awesome. The family environment that you and Mrs. Callahan created, not only for your own kids, but for the kids they were friends with, is something that I hope to be able to accomplish in my own life. Such a supportive, constructive, humorous and happy environment it is. I'm so happy and feel so fortunate to have been able to spend (SO much...) time (sorry about that), with you guys: growing up with your kids, having you and Mrs. Callahan shuttle us to the mall, SLUH events or water polo, conversations with you as an 'adult'. Thank you for letting me be a part of you and your kids' lives. I'll never forget it.
