Myron Dmytryszyn Obituary

Dmytryszyn, Myron age eighty-eight, fortified with the Sacraments of Holy Mother Church on Friday March 8, 2013. Beloved husband of the late Georgia Sue Dmytryszyn (nee Weindell); loving father of Marietta (Patrick Gadell) Abele; and the late Myron M. Bud Dmytryszyn; dear brother of the late Catherine Luzecky and Harry Dmytryszyn; dear brotherin-law of William (Pauline) Weindell and Katherine Dmytryszyn; dear Godfather, uncle, great uncle, cousin, and friend to many. After serving in the Army toward the end of World War ll, Myron earned a Doctor of Science degree in Chemical Engineering from Washington University in 1957, attending night school while working full time and raising his family. Upon retiring from Monsanto in 1986 following an extraordinary forty-year career, Myron and Sue spent over nine weeks literally traveling the world. Subsequent to retirement Myron remained active, teaching at Washington University; as a Docent at the St. Louis Zoo; and as a volunteer at Missouri Baptist Hospital. Myron never forgot his humble origins and was a true philanthropist, giving generously to the zoo, as well as endowing scholarships at both Washington University and the UM St. Louis Joint Engineering Program with Wash. U. Myron was also an avid golfer and wine connoisseur. The Family would especially like to thank the Staff of the Special Care Unit at St. Luke's Surrey Place, as well as our dear friend, Paige Knerr, for the loving care they provided Myron during his final years. Services: Visitation at Bopp Chapel 10610 Manchester Rd., Kirkwood, Mon., March 11, from 9:30am until 11:30am followed by a procession to St. Clement of Rome Catholic Church for 12 noon Mass. Interment Resurrection Cemetery. If desired, contributions may be made to Washington University, UM St. Louis, The St. Louis Zoo, or Missouri Baptist Hospital in Myron's honor. www.boppchapel.com

I will always remember Myron as one of the most well founded and charismatic instructors (from my masters studies at Wash U) that I have ever known. He had such insight into people that was so greatly grounded in his common sense and humor. I have often cited his wisdom and down to earth approach to many as what an ideal academic instructor is. My condolences to his family and loved ones.

Myron was a sage role model and invaluable adviser to younger managers at Monsanto whose expertise fell outside the technical fields in which he was so well grounded. I would never hesitate to get his insight if I felt out of my depth. Sue was a good friend of my wife Mary and our prayers will be with the family in these days.
