Edward B. Cook Obituary
Cook, Edward B. died July 12, 2012, eighty-three years after his birth in St. Louis on July 23, 1928. His parents were Howard G. Cook, a St. Louis patent attorney, and Jennie Belle Cook (née Wells), a teacher. He received a Bachelor of Fine Arts degree from Washington University School of Fine Arts. He served in the United States Naval Air Corps from January 1953 to January 1955. He then entered the field of advertising working first at Scruggs, Vandervoort & Barney, then relocating to Chicago with Charles A. Stevens & Co. as Art Director. Returning to St. Louis in 1963, he was Art Director for FamousBarr Co., Gardner Advertising Co., and later went on to become a Senior Art Director at D'Arcy Masius Benton & Bowles, Inc. In retirement he was a part-time instructor in graphic design at Meramec Community College and the University College at Washington University. His family loved him devotedly and he lives in our hearts. This includes his wife of 59 years, Jeannine Harriss Cook; his son, Bruce Harriss Cook; his daughterin-law, Kathleen Godfrey Cook; his grandsons, Edward (Ted) Godfrey Cook and Andrew Sean Alexander Cook; and his sister, Jane Anne Woods. Two brothers William D. Cook and Richard A. Cook preceded him in death. His many wonderful friends can always remember that they meant as much to him as he did to them. Services: A memorial service will be held at 3 p.m. on July 23rd at Webster Groves Presbyterian Church, 45 West Lockwood Avenue, St. Louis, Missouri. Burial will be private. The family is grateful for any memorial gifts, and especially for those made to the Ulysses S. Grant National Historic Site, 7400 Grant Road, St Louis, MO 63123 (checks payable to Jefferson National Parks Association).
