Meyer, Dr. James formerly of Manchester, MO, passed away peacefully at the age of 88 on Thursday, September 12, in Greenville, SC. Dr. Meyer was one of the first General Practitioners in west St. Louis County in the 1950s, and maintained a popular practice with Drs. Henry Scott and Herb McMurray until the mid-1970s. Dr. Meyer often made house calls throughout the then-rural area, and sometimes traded farm goods for medical visits. Dr. Meyer completed an Accelerated 18-month Pre-Med degree at Yale, and then was Medical Director of a MASH train in Korea. After retirement, Dr. Meyer rejoined the Air Force medical corps as an officer, and traveled Indonesia. He was most at peace while fishing on the Gasconade river. He is survived by his wife, Beth, of Greenville, SC; children Jan Cummings, Susan Birge', and Jim Meyer, Jr.; and, his brother Jack (Marcia) Meyer and sister Jill Diekroger. He also leaves ten grandchildren. Private family services will be held in Greenville and St. Louis.
