I met Jimmy through a friend through my karate school. Two of my friends and I would walk up at Pattonville at night. We would visit him up at AMC. I just learned of his passing tonight. I couldnt believe my ears. I am sorry Jim Mantle isnt around. He was such a funny character. He would always crack me up. The last time I saw him he was working for a place off of Lindbergh, he said helping a buddy sell cars. God Bless You.

I just heard about Jim's passing. I am so very sorry. He was a wonderful man.
Jim was my D.A.R.E. officer when I was in the fifth grade. Later around 2000, I ran into him again working security at AMC. My friend and I were being hassled by the AMC staff to prove our age. Jim called the AMC staff off of us after he and I had a funny exchange about him being my D.A.R.E. officer 7 or 8 years before. After that, I would see Jim regularly at Sports Authority (where I worked at the time) and he would always stop to chat. He was always so happy and upbeat.

I first knew him as Chief Mantle, then "Shorty", then friend, and finally hero. I met "Shorty" in the summer of 2001 when I took my first job at AMC. His humor and smile gravitated everyone to him. When my father began police training I talked to "Shorty" every time I was at work trying to get him to know my dad. After my dad ended up working with him I got to know him even more. I saw him as a friend. I sought his approval as much as I sought my own fathers. He was an amazing, funny, lovely man and will be missed by many.

I remember Jim as a bright spot on the
PTA Executive Board at Pattonville's
Remington Traditional School many years ago. His concern for the school and especially his own children was evident as he met with us monthly after
working all day. Also, I remember his compassion for a marching band member who fainted during a "Missouri Days" parade. He gave us a little glimpse of
how much he cared about others that day. I am sure that he must have brought that characteristic into each
job that he did, and especially as a
police officer. We need more like him.
May God comfort His family and friends.

I am at a loss of what to say. I met Mr. Mantle in the fall of 1993 when me and Gene were freshman at pattonville. He was not my father but he has taught me many life lessons when I needed them. My family came to know and love Mr. Mantle as we would see him on the weekends up at amc. My wife knew we had to leave our house just a little sooner so we could always spend a little time with him. He will be missed by all of us. To Gene and Tim God bless you both and I know that your parents are looking down you both with a smile.

Jim worked weekend security at AMC when I worked there in high school and college. I'd known him before that through Pattonville, but it was at AMC that I discovered just how wonderful of a person he was. We called him "Shorty" there, which I think we all found ironic in a way. He had one of the biggest, widest reaching personalities of anyone I'd ever known. All of us kids looked up to him & adored him. I dare say we even looked forward to working weekends a little because of him. He had a joke and a smile for everyone, a hug and a kind word whenever one was needed. He will be dearly missed. My prayers are with his family. I know they meant everything to him.

Jim was the greatest father I could of asked for, sometimes I didnt realize that , maybe I wasnt suppose to at that time. My dad touched so many peoples life, all you had to do was ask him for help and you got it 100% from him. There are so many memories (some good and some not so good) that I will hold deeply in my heart forever. No matter what I did he never turned his back on me, he just helped me to press on in life and taught me that I must lay in whatever bed I make for myself. I wish I could of been half the father he was to me and Tim, we both loved him with all our hearts and would do anything to have our father back, and our mother. We have lost both parents in 7 years and that the pain we feel will never go away but they are both together and in a better place with no pain. I greatly appreciate everyone who has reached out to us, I know my dad touched all of you and you all have wonderful memories of him. I look forward to being with my father and mother again one day in a better place!!!I will miss you very much DAD I love you forever GENE

To the Mantle family,
What a shock to hear of Jim's passing. I always looked up to him when he was the DARE officer for St. Ann PD. He was such an inspiration and someone who would do anything for anyone at any time. If there were more like him this world would be more pleasant.
God bless his family and allow them the peace to cope with their loss.
We will always remember Jim with his smile and laugh.
God Bless my friend.

My deepest thought's and prayers to the Mantle Family. I just saw Jim 4 months ago and he looked great then! Jim always had a smile on his face and always said he was doing great. I've known Jim ever since I was a young kid. He played Santa's helper and Bob Schrader was Santa Clause. The both knew we didn't have a lot of money then so it was so nice to see them both. Other times I would always see Jim at AMC Theaters where he would take tickets from people coming in and I would purposely go to that theater to see if he was there. The Jim I will remeber is a person who always had a smile and always lived life to the fullest!

Jim's mother and my mother were sisters, and our dad's were brothers. That made us double 1st cousins. We lived next to each other for 6 years in the early 50's. Jim, Judy and Elaine, and myself, my brothers Ronnnie, Donnie, and Stan were like brothers and sisters. Jim was always a little live wire. We had a great time back then. Despite his size, their was nothing he wouldn't tackle.Jim turn into a good man, husband, father, and grandfather. As a police officer, he was a kind man. Although we lived in different parts of the country, whenever we would get together, he would always make me laugh. Jim, Willy as we called him, will forever be in my heart. I hope Dad was their to greet you. I hope you are at peace now. May God take care of you!
Love you Wil,,

Our good friend Jim will be missed very much by many people. He was always willing to help anyone in need. He was always there for the children and teenagers. Many who he helped or gave advise through the years are now grown with children of their own. Jim probably didn't realize how many people he actually helped with just his smile. He was a good man and a good police man who held respect. We loved Jim, Pam, Gene and Tim. Our prayers are with Gene, Tim and their family members. Jim and Pam will always be a part of our memory.
