Hampson, Jr., Joseph Raymond Ray of St. Charles, Mo., died on Thurs., Feb. 14, 2013 at the age of 86. Dear husband of the late Marjorie J. (Martin) Hampson, loving father of William, Rochester, N.Y., Richard (Lynda), Clinton, Conn., and Todd (Jeanne), St. Charles, Mo. Beloved grandfather of Deborah (David) Moore, Brandon, Jessica, Maria, Megan, Rayann and Emily Hampson, dear uncle, cousin, and friend. Ray was born Jan. 25, 1927 in Pittsfield, Mass., to the late Joseph R. Hampson, Sr., and Clara (Browne) Hampson. He was preceded in death by his sister, Elizabeth B. Gillan and niece, Carol Andresen. He graduated from Pittsfield High School, attended Deerfield Academy, then served as Seaman First Class in the U.S. Navy. Ray earned a bachelor of arts degree from Amherst College and a bachelor of architecture from Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute. He pursued his career as an architectural engineer in Rochester, where he married and raised his family. In 1978, the family moved to St. Louis, where Ray continued his architectural career at various firms including HBE Corp., HOK, William B. Ittner, Inc., and NewGround. Ray's hobbies involved genealogy, and following current events and sports, especially St. Louis Blues hockey, Cardinals baseball, and Rams football. The family will receive friends at St. Robert Bellarmine Catholic Church, (St. Charles) Thurs., Feb. 21 at 6:30 p.m., followed by a memorial service at 7:00 p.m. Burial will be held at Christ Episcopal Church in Pittsford, N.Y., at a later date.
