Leo Peck Obituary

Peck, Leo G. age 95, died on March 6, 2013. Beloved husband of Beverley Peck; father of Sally (Mrs. Otway) Rash, Paige Peck, and Nancy (Mrs. Richard) Hawkins, and grandfather of: Brian, Marine 1st Lieutenant Jason (Catherine), and Daniel Hawkins. He was preceded in death by his brothers Al Peck, Lawrence Peck, and his sister, Gloria Neils, of Bellingham, WA. He was senior class president at Maplewood High School and was the lead in a variety of school musicals. He graduated from the University of Missouri in 1939 with a degree in business, and was one of the first draftees from the city of Clayton, in February 1941. He spent 5 years with the U.S. Army in WW II, including 2 years in Europe as Assistant lead for all military and civilian personnel management issues for First Army, participating in five major battles including D-Day and the Battle of the Bulge. He retired from the Army as a Major. He started working as a salesman for Peck's Products Co., a manufacturer of industrial soaps, founded by his father, eventually becoming president. He later served as president of MeyerBlanke Co. until he retired. Among his many civic activities, he was elected to the Ladue City Council for 2 terms, being responsible for the new Leaf Collection Program. He was appointed to the Air Pollution Board of St. Louis County. For his volunteer work with St. Peter's Episcopal Church, he served as an active member of the vestry, and also a board member of Wesley House and of Carver House. He was a devoted member of the University Club, serving on the board in different capacities over many years. As president of Bellerive Country Club, Mr. Peck was instrumental in bringing the PGA Championship Tournament to St. Louis and Bellerive in 1992. He also served as chairman of the Private Industry Council and was a board member of Bethesda Hospital for 12 years, and a board member of Central bank, a division of General Bancshares, Boatmen's Bank. He was also the first president of the Associated Drug and Chemical Association of St. Louis, and served on the board of Missouri Valley College. Services: A memorial service will be held on Thursday, March 14 at 4:00 pm at St. Peter's Episcopal Church, at Warson and Ladue Roads. His body was donated to Washington University School of Medicine. Memorial contributions may be made to the American Red Cross or the Salvation Army.
