Marilyn Lipton Obituary

Lipton, Marilyn Goldsmith St. Louis lost one of its jewels with the death of Marilyn Goldsmith Lipton on June 5, 2013 at the age of 81, after a long battle with Alzheimer's. She grew up Marilyn Goldsmith in Lake Charles Louisiana where her parents, Benjamin, a doctor, and Florence were pillars of the community. As a student at Louisiana State University, she met her husband Donn H. Lipton, a Tulane graduate, a St. Louisan and a second generation real estate entrepreneur and who died in 2009. Marilyn helped build a life centered on adventure, travel and family. Early in the Lipton marriage the couple spent 2 years in Okinawa where Lipton served as an officer in the Air Force. Moving back to St. Louis, Marilyn would often co-pilot their hot air balloon, glider and plane. Marilyn carved her own role in the community and created one of the first residential plant businesses in the area, Interior Plantscape, which included the creation of the first terrarium lamps that were sold through Sears. Her family came first however, and anyone that knew her was made to feel like family within a matter of moments. As a volunteer, she devoted time to Barnes Jewish Hospital, the Jewish Federation, the St. Louis Art Museum, the Botanical Garden, the Aspen Art Museum, Lucky Lane Nursery School and the St. Louis Zoo where she and Donn endowed a koala habitat and the Donn and Marilyn Lipton Fragile Forest. Marilyn is survived by her sons Randy, Doug and Gregg Lipton and her Brother Bobby Goldsmith of Lake Charles Louisiana. In addition, Marilyn leaves behind adoring grandchildren Henri, Katherine, Madeline, Isaac, Oliver and Miles, daughters in law Cindy Daniel , Ann Sheehan Lipton and Sara Crisp as well as nieces and nephews Christy and Patti Ferer, Leslie Goldsmith Katz and Mathew Goldsmith Everyone affectionately called her Goose because she was just that. Mother Goose. If desired, contributions may be made to Alzheimer's Association or the charity of your choice. Services: Burial will be private. Visitation at 40 W. Brentmoor Park, Clayton MO, Tuesday, June 11, 2-6pm. A RINDSKOPF-ROTH SERVICE

Marilyn and I share two wonderful grandsons, Henri and Oliver. While it has been a long time since I was in her warm caring presence, I will always think of her lovingly.
