Sheila Moseley Obituary

Moseley, Sheila Shelp of Saint Louis, Missouri passed away on June 2, 2013 in Clayton, Missouri after a short illness. Sheila was born in Saint Louis, Missouri on April 16, 1921. She graduated from Mary Institute in 1939 and attended Smith College. She was married to Harman I. Moseley II for 40 years and he preceded her in death. Sheila was a pioneer in Saint Louis radio and television. When Sheila was in college her mother won a play writing contest. Sheila went on a radio show to read the winning entry. That was the beginning of her career in broadcasting that lasted over fifty years. Sheila worked at KFUO, KXOX, WEW, KMOX, WIL, KADY and KSD. In the forties and fifties, she did everything from drama on the Land We Live In and producing Russ David's Playhouse Party to writing scripts in the continuity department and intros and ad libs for disc jockeys. Sheila was the host of the The Nancy Dixon Show that spotlighted Sanforized clothes in local stores. Her last radio show in the '80s was Nancy Willard which featured short pieces of wisdom and humor. Sheila was a mainstay of local television at KSD in the early fifties at one point appearing on eleven different shows a week. Later in life Sheila ran the St. John and St. Andrews movie theaters with her husband Harman. Sheila was on the St. Louis area Food Bank board for many years as well as a docent for the Repertory Theater. Sheila became senior warden of Emmanuel Episcopal Church in her late seventies, a position that she fulfilled with grace and humility, like everything else in her life. Sheila was a long time member of the Saint Louis Women's Club and the Missouri Athletic Club. Sheila is survived by her daughter Sheila Graham Hood of Harvester, MO and her three sons, Willard of Ballwin, MO, Harman of Clayton, MO and John of Glendale, MO, eight grandchildren, eight great-grandchildren and a step-daughter. Services: A memorial service in celebration of Sheila's life will be held on Saturday June 8th at 11:00 AM at Emmanuel Episcopal Church, 9 S. Bompart Avenue, Webster Groves, MO. Interment in the church's memorial garden will follow the service. In lieu of flowers, the family requests gifts to The Emmanuel Food Center, 9 S. Bompart Ave., St. Louis, MO 63119.

She was such a sweet, interesting lady, I enjoy talking and visiting with her. She got her hair done by me. She enjoy getting her hair and nail done too. She said it was her highlight of the day for her. I will truly miss her.
