Stephen James Asher Obituary
Asher, Stephen James of Limerick, PA, passed away March 11, 2014 at the age of 71 years. He is survived by his beloved of 22 years, Gayle; dear sister Nancy (Don) Reynolds; brother-in-law Larry (Lana) Greene; uncle to Stephanie (Dan) Gould, Michael (Courtney) Greene and Rachel Greene; stepfather of David Henking and Eric (Melissa) Henking; grandfather of Alexander and Isaac DrummondHenking. He was preceded in death by his parents Vernon and Mary Asher and Judith (Greene) Asher. Steve graduated from Kirkwood High School in 1960 and earned a B.S. Degree in Mechanical Engineering from the University of Missouri at Columbia in 1965. At Mizzou, he received a Navy R.O.T.C. Scholarship. Upon graduation he was commissioned an officer. He stayed in the Navy for 4 1/2 years, achieving the rank of Lieutenant. Steve then worked at McDonnell Douglas on the Sky Lab Project. He also worked for many years at Monsanto. As a project engineer, his work experience required him to live in many cities in the United States as well as Taiwan. In recent years, his work was in the Philadelphia area. He was a huge Cardinal fan and lover of all Mizzou sports. He returned to Columbia, many times for Homecoming and loved cheering the Tigers on to a victory. Services: The family will receive visitors on Saturday, April 5, at 12:45pm followed by a Memorial Service, which will begin at 1:30pm at Kirkwood United Methodist Church, 201 West Adams, Kirkwood, MO 63122. A graveside service with military honors will follow at OAK HILL Funeral Home and Cemetery, 10301 Big Bend Rd., Kirkwood, MO 63122. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations can be made to Mizzou Scholarship Fund, Attn: Gena Scott, Director of Advancement, 302 Reynolds Alumni Center, Columbia, MO 65211 or Missouri Botanical Garden, 4244 Shaw Blvd., St. Louis, MO 63110.
