Thank you for letting me be a part of the beautiful tribute to Wilma's life today. Please know that she was a big part of our family at the St. Louis Arc. I wanted to share one bittersweet memory that summed up Wilma's kindness of spirit: Unfortunately, SLARC had- due to budget cuts- several rounds of layoffs, and Wilma's position was affected. Wilma was so highly esteemed that the President himself met with her to let her know she was being laid off. He met with her and then came to me, crying. I'd never seen our President show much emotion, let alone cry. He said, "Vicki, when I told Wilma we had to lay her off, she looked at me and said 'Thank you, it has been my privilege to serve people with disabilities over the years.'" To me, that pretty much sums up Wilma's generosity of spirit and I am so thankful that I had the opportunity to know her.
