Dillinger, Richard E. Dick of East Carondelet, IL, passed away at his residence on Sat., May 10, 2014. He was born on June 24, 1937 in Prairie du Rocher, IL and was preceded in death by his parents, Edward and Florence (nee Brauch) Dillinger and dearest aunt, Elvera Ellie Brauch and special and close friend, Nate Price. Surviving are his wife, Grace Dillinger (nee McDonagh), daughter, Annie Dillinger, son, Joe McMahon, daughter-in-law, Joy and grandchildren, Payton and Cade. Dick graduated from SIU Carbondale in 1959 where he earned his business degree and was an extremely accomplished baseball player for the University. His single season batting average of .455 has yet to be broken. His love for the game was unwavering and he continued to play until the age of 50. Dick retired in 1994 as an Executive Vice President after a 35 year career at General American Life Insurance. He was also heavily involved and well respected throughout the community. Dick was on the board of the Dupo School District 196 for 12 years and was elected President several years in a row. His passion and drive to give back to the community produced several strategies and enhancements that are still in place today. Services: Funeral at KUTIS SOUTH COUNTY Chapel 5255 Lemay Ferry Rd. Tue., May 13 at 10am. Interment Calvary Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, the family is requesting that donations be sent to the independencefund.org (track chairs for disabled Veterans). Visitation Mon. 3-8pm.
