Normand E. Fontaine Obituary
Fontaine, Normand E. 81, of St. Louis, died Wednesday, June 11, 2014 at his home lovingly cared for by his family, fortified with the Sacraments of Holy Mother Church. Born October 1, 1932 in Worcester, MA, he was the youngest child of Joseph Donat and Marie Desrochers Fontaine. On May 31, 1958 he was married to Carolyn Ryan, who survives of the home. Also surviving are a daughter, Laura (David) Ahlvers, of Jefferson City; two sons, David (Judy) Fontaine, of Dublin, CA and Daniel (Jenny) Fontaine, of Mission, KS; eight grandchildren, Annie (Nick) Wilkinson, Chrissy and Suzie Ahlvers, Shawn (Mindy), Brett (Elizabeth), Peter, Patrick, and Daniel Fontaine; and one great-grandson, Samuel Ryan Fontaine; his sister, Annette Peabody, as well as his sisters-in-law Mary Fontaine and Jeanette Fontaine, cousins, nieces, nephews and friends. He was preceded in death by his parents and infant daughter Carrie Anne and four brothers Roland, Paul, Gerry and wife Lucy, and George and wife Sibyl, as well as his in-laws Joe and Carrie Ryan. Mr. Fontaine was raised and educated in Gardner, MA. After proudly serving in the U.S. Air Force during the Korean War, he earned his bachelor's and master's degrees in education from UCM in Warrensburg, MO. He was a social studies teacher in the Lindbergh District in St. Louis for 30 years. After his retirement he enjoyed travel, golf, skiing and camping in the great outdoors. He was a tireless parish volunteer, Boy Scout leader and friend to all in need, but the greatest joy in life was his family. Services: Mass of Christian Burial will be Saturday, June 14, 2014, Sacred Heart Catholic Church in Sedalia at 10 a.m. with visitation at 9 a.m., the Reverend Mark Miller officiating. A Memorial Mass July 5, 2014 10 a.m. at St. Mark's Catholic Church, 8300 Morganford Rd. in St. Louis. The family requests in lieu of flowers that memorials be made to Sacred Heart Church and School Sedalia, St. Mark's Church and School St. Louis or St. Jude's Research Hospital for Children (Memphis).
