1920 - 2014 Obituary Condolences
Corry, Alvin Marshall 94, of St. Louis, MO died at home on August 18th, 2014. Al was born to Roy and Alda (nee Marshall) Corry in 1920. He was raised with his two sisters, Wanda and Norma, during the deprivations of the Great Depression. After graduation from Central High School, Al met Shirley (nee Koenig) while they worked at the St. Louis Board of Education. After Pearl Harbor, he enlisted and went by troop transport across the Pacific, flying over the Burma Hump into China where he served for the remainder of the war. He was discharged with the rank of Master Sargent in the Flying Tigers of the Army Air Corps. Al then returned to St. Louis where he married Shirley and enrolled at St. Louis University. He subsequently graduated with a Bachelor's Degree in Business. Shortly thereafter, their sons James and Rick were born. He began working for a local CPA firm and over time he became the president of National Vendors. He was elected for a term as president of the NAMA (National Automatic Merchandising Assoc.) He traveled widely throughout the states and world for both business and pleasure. During these years, he and Shirley had an active social life that included countless friends. He was a longtime member of Glen Echo Country Club where he served as president and oversaw a major renovation. He was an avid golfer and card player. He played in many local club tournaments and was a Senior Regional Champion who could shoot his age of 80. Al retired at the age of 62 and he and Shirley lived in their house for the remainder of their long lives. Their happy sixty-six year marriage came to a close with the death of Shirley in October 2012. Al remained active until the last year of his life. Al will be missed and is survived by his sons, James (Sandra) of Philadelphia, PA; and Rick (Vicki, Mary and Marji); his grandchildren, Kevin (Tracy) of Pflugerville, TX; Kathy Baker (Geoffrey) of Binghampton, NY; Brian (Susan); Scott (Madera) of Appleton, WI; John of Sonoma, CA and Sarah; his five great-grandchildrenl his sister, Norma (Pete) Rahn and pre-deceased by his sister, Wanda Novelly. In addition, he is survived by Marji's sons, Christopher and James Zeigler. Services: Visitation Saturday, August 23rd, 2014 from 1 - 5 p.m. at KRIEGSHAUSER WEST Mortuary, 9450 Olive Blvd., St. Louis, MO 63132. Interment Memorial Park Cemetery.
