Buford Allison Obituary

Allison, Buford N. Butch Friday, April 2, 2010. Beloved husband of the late MaryAnn (nee Azar) and the late Liz (nee Kivitt); dear father of Kimberly (Kevin) Heuermann, Ashley (Kevin) Maguire, Whitney Allison (deceased), Hunter Allison, Kimberly (Scott) Hukari and Stephen (Kimberly) Kovac; dear brother of Wilson Allison and the late Larry Allison; loving grandfather of 10 grandchildren: Alexa, Hunter, Harrison, Heath, Hayes, Harper, Haydan, Greer, Jackson and Kiernan. Butch was born October 29, 1944 to Eunice and Bradley Allison in Fort Worth, Texas. Butch was the youngest of three boys. He grew up in Springfield, MO where he attended Parkview High School. Parkview is where his love of football began. During his senior year at Parkview he was invited to play in the High School All American Football Game held May 1961 at the Cotton Bowl in Dallas, Texas. From there he went on to play for the Missouri Tigers, this is where his love for the game grew even stronger. He received All Big 8 Honors his Sophomore, Junior and Senior year. He was also named 2nd string All American his junior year and received the game ball when MU was victorious over Oklahoma in November 1964. He finished his career at Missouri with a win at the 1966 Sugar Bowl where Missouri beat Florida. After the game four Missouri's seniors, including Butch were top draft choices claimed by the National Football League. The four seniors including Butch did not fly home with the team from the Sugar Bowl they remained in the South for the Senior Bowl game at Mobile, Alabama. Within a few hours after Mizzou (won the Sugar Bowl over Florida 20-18, 1/1/66) Allison, who broke his hand on the game's third play, was the first signee minutes after the locker room was opened to the press. Butch Allison signed a pro contract with the Baltimore Colts and later went on to play for the New Orleans Saints, always wearing bib number 70. Football was not Butch's only passion; he was an avid hunter and sportsman, who enjoyed riding horses and training bird dogs. After his football career, Butch was in the sports printing business and later in his life ran West End Galleries and the Clarksville Antique Mall with his late second wife. Butch enjoyed spending time with his Children and Grandchildren, and he always had a smile for every customer that came through the door. Services: Funeral Tuesday, April 6, 10 a.m. at BOPP Chapel, 10610 Manchester Rd., Kirkwood. Interment, Forever Bellerive Cemetery. Butch was one of my favorite cousins I especially admired. As a child he was always so kind and tolerated me and even entertained me while we would visit our Grandmother ... Mama Powell , in Kaufman Texas (just East of Dallas) . My dad , Newell Eugene Powell ( his uncle) was very proud of all of Butchs accomplishments athletically, family, and business ventures. He possessed a grand history with his relatives ( his Uncle Newell & Uncle Malcolm both played college ball) that also played football. I think Uncle Malcolm okayed the same position at SMU. I am happy to reflect I was able to talk and email Butch in his last few years here and got to have a wonderful reunion of the Powell/ Allison Cousins also in Dallas. ( Mimi Powell Huey, Judy Powell Russell, Diane Powell Pittman, Jean Louise, Wilson Allison, and me Paula Powell Dorsey ) We all loved Cuz Butch. Glad Ive been able to contact his family in Facebook. Wishing the family blessings... He definitely made this a better place. Paula

Mom & I rented booth space not long after the Clarksville Antique Center opened. We met MaryAnn & Butch and a bond was formed thru our love of animals. Our lives have been blessed by knowing these two fine people. Mom's name is Mary Jones, Butch always called her "Mrs. Smith" - she got the greatest kick out if it and always looked forward to visiting with him. He will be sadly missed, but we know he's where he wants to be.
With Heartfelt Sympathy-

I've known Butch for a lot of years. Growing up, our families were friends, in fact our dad's were the best of friends. (Both being preacher's, making us PK's). I used to play football with the three boys in their front yard whenever we would visit, I think just to be around them and hoped to get their attention!. His mother was such a lady who instilled in her sons the importance of family and friends. It is quite clear that both made Butch the person he was. We followed his football career, in fact my dad and I attended most all the Mizzou games when Butch was playing. Our paths didn't cross for several years, but then by way of a bird dog,we re-connected and Butch visited our farms many times to hunt. After he moved to Clarksville (I live only a few miles away) I visited the Antique Mall many times and always enjoyed our visits. His family has always had a place in my heart. He will be sadly missed by many. I know his family members who have gone before him were waiting to greet him with open arms.
To his remaining family, I say Be Bold and keep the faith.

Butch was always a true gentleman. I had associated with him when he was a Bellerive Country Club member. Really a class act guy. He had more tragedy in his life than he deserved. Although I have not seen Butch in awhile, my memories of him will always be ones of good times.
My prayers and thoughts are with his family.
Sincerely
Rick Seebeck

We shared so many great times with Butch, Liz and Hunter after my familes Move to STL in 1985. Mary Ann was truly a gift in Butch's life and his families in so many ways. In February Butch and I drove to Springfield for the Mo Soorts Hall of Fame for Van Dyke. It was a reunion of sorts for many of us.Butch and I shared many stories on our journey. Butch was particularly at peace with himself and his life. His children and grandchildren brought him so much happiness. I will miss him. Gus Otto

Dear Family,
Though there are many miles between us, I share your grief and your loss too. Butch was one of my favorite cousins and we had just reconnected after many years of absence (Powell Reunion - Dallas). I will miss his daily emails, as well as his great humor and wisdom. He encouraged me to live life again after the loss of my husband even though he struggled himself. He brought me back to my childhood loves, the love of horses, the love of sports, the love of writing, and the love of dogs. He reminded me of how strong faith in God has to be in your life.
My fondest memory of Butch is when I was a little girl in Kaufman, Tx visiting Grandmother Powell and he took time to play with his me, his younger cousin. He lifted me on his broad shoulders and helped me walk along the rock wall in her front yard ... Willie and Larry, the older brothers. were usually rough housing in the yard....Aunt Eunice said her sons were the bullies of the neighborhood. I prefer to think of them as the fun PK's .."boys will be boys,"
I am so blessed to have had Butch in my life. He and Willie made me better understand WHO I am . I love you all and miss Butch so much, but truly know his faith and where he is now. The bells are ringing in heaven, he has gone home. Paula

Our hearts are breaking, please accept our deepest sympathy. 5 yrs. ago we became booth renters and both Butch & Mary Ann treated us like family. We will miss his humor. Tim just realized that in Oct. '65 his band preformed at the Mizzou game and saw Butch play - what a small world. Let us know if we can help in anyway.

Your family is in my prayers. I knew Butch from Mizzou Football.

Sincerely,
