Mrs Mayer, Your memory will live on for so many years to come. You touched my life in a way that few teachers did with your caring attitude and heartfelt desire to bring out the best in everyone. (Class of 1974)

Few teachers leave such an impression that they are easily remembered some 20 odd years later...Mrs Mayer I remember you well. Thank you for your dedication.

I express my sympathy and condolences to Mrs. Mayer's sons and family. I would also like to reiterate some of the things said about her. Mrs. Mayer also had a positive effect on me. She taught me in both, English and Drama, at Metro. She always motivated me to strive for better. She was a very loving, strong, smart, classy, and dedicated teacher. Her teaching style was such that it seemed 1 on 1. She will be missed but highly honored. GOD bless you all.

Mrs. Mayer blessed every student she taught! Her unique, caring and matter-of-fact style of teaching touched each and every one of us. A bright light at Metro has been extinguished! I STILL love to read! I'm sending my thanks to you in heaven Mrs. Mayer! Rest Forever in Paradise to a dear teacher!

It is such an honor, privilege and blessing to have had Mrs. Mayer as an influence in my life. She was a multifaceted diamond demonstrating how I could become the same. Even today I'm continuing to follow her model, some 32 years later.
To her sons, thank you for allowing her to be a mother to so many others. May God comfort you during your loss. And may her legacy affirm your paths in life.

Dear Heloise,
You were part of the Search Committee that called me as Pilgrim's Pastor, and your support for me never wavered. It was a joy to visit you and your dear Tansie as your health prohibited you from attending church. And then my son Andrew became a Metro High School student, and I saw the plaque placed there in your honor; what a thrill it was to say that I knew you! To your sons Tansie III and Gerald, and to your family, I send my deepest condolences. I hope that you and Tansie are dancing the time away in heaven! Peace be with you, Rev. Cynthia S. Bumb, "Pastor Cindy"

I feel honored to have been a student in Mrs. Mayer's class. Not only was she a great teacher, but she was kind, clear headed, empathetic and strong. One day, when I was having a difficult day in another teachers class and had gotten into some trouble, Mrs. Mayer took me aside and told me in so many words that she had tremendous faith in my ability to achieve and that she had expressed this to other adults who hadn't shared her opinion when they had watched me struggling to stay in school. Having an adult on your side when you are facing those types of challenges is tremendous. Having an adult by your side behind the scenes when you aren't even aware of it shows a courageous character and a willingness to hold true to your beliefs about others. I have never forgotten that moment or Mrs. Mayer's wise kindness and I was glad I proved her right. I feel blessed to have known her as this memory always reminds me of the power of the goodwill of others. Bless her and may she rest in peace.

Mrs Mayer was one of the most eloquent amazing women I've ever known. I originally had her as my piano teacher at age 10 and then as my English teacher at Metro High School. She will always have a special place in my life and heart...

RIP Mrs. Mayer. What an elegant, strong and thoughtful woman. I still have the card (with Susan B. Anthony dollar taped inside) Mrs. Mayer gave me for graduation from Metro in 1989. She encouraged me to keep writing....and I am! My thoughts are with her family.
