James L. Adams Obituary
Adams, James L. of Webster Groves, fortified with the Sacraments of Holy Mother Church died Wednesday, June 19, 2013 at the age of 94. A devoted father, grandfather and great grandfather, he is survived by his children, Jim (Sue) Adams, Cate (Ron) Adams, Betsy Naeger, Barb (Chuck) Mittler, Tom Adams; eight grandchildren and 3 great-grandchildren; dear brother, uncle and friend to many. June 19 would have been his 65th wedding anniversary. His devoted bride, Carol (nee Bulger) died in July 2011. He is also preceded in death by his beloved son-in-law Leonard Naeger. Jim was raised on a farm in Tampico, IL, the third of eight children born to Robert and Vera Adams. He is survived by one brother, Charles. He earned an Electrical Engineering degree from the University of Illinois, Champaign and went to work for Union Electric in St. Louis upon graduation. He enlisted in the U.S. Army Signal Corp in 1942 and served in the new radar unit at Bell Laboratories and in London. He met his bride on a blind date on Palm Sunday, 1944. Carol was serving as a WAVE in the U.S. Navy. After a four year courtship, managed primarily by the US Postal Service, they were married in Delaware and settled in Webster Groves in 1954 where they raised their 5 children in a neighborhood full of children. In his retirement Jim was an avid golfer, a volunteer for the Salvation Army and a leader in the St. Vincent DePaul Society at St. Joseph's Catholic Church in Bonne Terre, MO. Memorials may be made to Ozark Valley Community Service (OVCS), 310 S Shepherd, Ironton, MO 63650. Services: Visitation Wed.
