Brackeen,Travis Wilburn Savannah and Tybee Island-Travis Wilburn Brackeen, 80, died July 14, 2013 at Oceanside Nursing Home, Tybee Island, GA under the care of Hospice Advantage. He was born July 16, 1932 in University, MS and lived in MS, VA, NM, AZ, CA and MO before retiring in Savannah. He earned Bachelors and Masters Degrees in Electrical Engineering from Mississippi State University and membership in Tau Beta Pi and Cappa Mu Epsilon Societies. He served in the USN and USNR attaining the rank of Lieutenant. In the Navy, he tested and evaluated early rocket and missile systems. His business career spanned over 40 years and continued his work in the defense industry as an electrical and avionics engineer for leading defense firms such as Hughes Aircraft, GE and McDonnell-Douglas. His career as a real estate investor began in the early 1970s continuing until his death. He served as president of the St. Louis Society for the Blind and Visually Impaired in Saint Louis, MO and was a member of the Sons of Confederate Veterans and the American Legion. He was a classic car enthusiast, vintage camera buff and computer geek as well as an avid cat and Jack Russell terrier lover. Surviving are his wife of 57 years, Marigail Rothwell Brackeen, of Savannah, his daughter and son-in-law Kathleen Brackeen-Putnam and Perry Putnam, of Saint Louis, MO, his daughter Katherine Brackeen, of Tybee Island, his sister and brother-in-law, Wanda and Ned Yelverton, of Seabrook, TX, his sister-in-law, Martha Bolton Brackeen, of Muscle Shoals, AL, three nephews and two nieces. Services: The family will receive friends from noon to 1 p.m. on Friday, July 19 at Fox &Weeks Funeral Directors, Islands Chapel with the funeral service at 1 p.m. Interment will follow at Laurel Grove Cemetery.
